Review of Carthage, North Carolina

Poor, Sad Little town
Star Rating - 1/19/2019
Some call it "sweet carthage" really...no industry other than the "Chuck Wagon" restaurant. The city has had high hopes for years of becoming a tourist destination with the 4 or 5 murals painted on buildings (no hotels of fine restaurants within the city) Very few businesses can sustain there, several of the banks have closed and moved out of town..Take a minute to drive thru this poor little town, only held up by a jail and a court house. Town has no interest in attracting real businesses that can last the test of time. Do yourself a favor and go to Southern Pines or Pinehurst NC.

Well, time changes all things. It is true, banks have left, the court complex has been the sustenance of Carthage as the Moore County seat; however, there are more businesses than the Chuck Wagon. There are The Vintage Barn, Practical Posh, Home Girls, Lisa's Boutique, an upscale thrift store, Hibachi Grill, a new park was recently installed and there is a new Main Street Marketplace consultant setting to improve the community. The murals are impressive and a good steak house / fine dining location is needed. The inherent issues of "Sweet Carthage" are the fact that townies tend to look at new business under the lens of "Will this one fail too?" Rather than support them - it is a silent lottery waiting to see the rise or demise, but these old school antics are changing. The ideal of the court complex being the harbinger of revenue is an outdated modus operandi and does require dissolution, but it seems with ever-increasing new community members, beginning to be comprised of military families, diversity, change management and improvement are on the horizon. Rather than suggestions to go to Southern Pines and Pinehurst - it is time for folks to revolutionize the Carthage community through support of change. And, still "also" participate in Southern Pines and Pinehurst because they are excellent communities in their own right.
