Review of El Cajon, California

Fletcher Hills is Awesome!!!
Star Rating - 3/15/2013
El Cajon and La Mesa are about a dozen miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Fletcher Hills, in particular, is a community within El Cajon on the boarder of La Mesa/Mt. Helix. This beautiful neighborhood was developed in the late 1920's by San Diego developer Ed Fletcher. The weather is amazing! Winters are mild; while cold in the evening and early morning to remind you there are seasons, the days are marked by sunshine and "light jacket" temperatures. In the summer, a calm, gentle breeze keeps it comfortable and ALWAYS pleasant. Many homes don't even have air conditioning, although I do think that it is better if you do. It is close to the ocean, the mountains, hiking trails, parks, restaurants and shopping. The schools, kindergarten to college, are over-the-top great. Also particularly notable about Fletcher Hills is the neighborly people, always smiling and taking care of each other, a throw back to an earlier time. Speaking of an earlier time, a quick look at the El Cajon city web site tells of its rich history as an important American city!

I couldn't agree more! I moved to a 4 bedroom rental in Fletcher Hills in May 2018 not knowing anything about the little pocket. Indeed, 'throw back' to the good 'ol days where people are friendly and the breeze is true! In the evenings, the North West wind blows through all our windows creating a magical feel. We throw on our thongs at 9:00 pm and walk down the little street to eat tacos at Rancho Villa, the taco shop on the corner where Sylvia and Paco have worked for years. We go to the BEST thrift store next door, Father Joe's, for some fun therapy and head over to the Pacific Beach (30 minutes) to swim in 78 degree waters. Did I mention the 4 bedroom/2 bathroom has a gorgeous rock swimming pool for $2600/month! El Cajon is our address, but if I had listened to others comments about El Cajon, I would have never found this gem of a neighborhood.
