Review of Lancaster, Texas

Lancaster Independent School District-LISD
Star Rating - 11/4/2011
The school's under LISD are so poor. I have 3 children in 3 different schools. The LISD district is such a let down. I'm not a native Texan-had I been I would have known not to move to this area. I would have went 5 more miles up the road to Red oak, Tx. where the schools are much better!!!! Here in Lancaster, both my elementary child and high school child very seldom have homework due to them not being allowed to bring books home. The district claims they don't have $$$ in the budget for enough books. However, back a few months ago when this major storm came through here, the district had enough funds available to replace the Tiger @ the high school on the outside of the football stadium! (It had been damaged in the storm.) I also have a MAJOR problem with the TAKS test-that they supposedly have done away with. However, with the TAKS test you can go to school all year long and be on the principal's list every single semester and then take the TAKS and be held back!!!!!!! What? Are you kidding me? I am currently looking for jobs in other states as well as homes. As soon as the job situation changes, we are leaving Texas-specifically Lancaster. I'm sure not everywhere in Tx is bad, but things are so mismanaged here its rediculious! The emphasis here lies more in football than in education. Again our high school-that my son attends-spends so much money on football equipment, football uniforms, stadiums, and golf carts for the stadium that they can't and don't take time to actually educate our children. My son initially played football our first year here, so I know 1st hand that everything I say is true and factual. When my son revealed to his coach he would not be returning sophmore year (due to my concern of him having epileptic seizures) the coach told him (out of my presence) that he was a "pussy" and that he should "man up." Maybe I'm crazy but last I checked football wasn't that serious-to endaanger your life. One rough hit to the head just right and my son has a seizure and dies or a life in a wheelchair in aa diaaper and unable to feed himself....And the coach is calling him a quitter???? Like I said, be very AWARE before moving here if you have children! I'm trying my best to find a way out of here!

I get homework a lot. How do you know your high school kid is not lying like any other kid that lies about homework. I'm guessing your kid got held back.

As the parent of two current LISD students and one LHS graduate who is excelling in college, I have been pleased with the school district, academics and leadership. LISD is a student focused school district and those efforts have resulted in better test scores and outside investment in district programs. Lancaster schools are strongly supported by the community. My children's education is a high priority. Along with being a highly involved parent and the other factors I listed before, any student can succeed in LISD or any district.
