The big snow country....
Star Rating - 3/28/2009
It is called the big snow country for a reason. It snows...a lot...and gets very chilly. The winters last a good 6-7 months. If you like to ski, ice fish, snowmobile, or any other winter sports/activities you might like it. The one problem is that there is nothing to do. We just got a Wal-Mart which is huge and the only place to get a decent pair of athletic shoes in the area is Dunham's. I have lived in the U.P. my whole life and love the outdoors, but I can only handle so much of that before I want to branch out and so some different recreational activities. The cost of living is decent, but like I say, you better be able to entertain yourself if you move into town. Overall not a bad place, but I am 25 and ready to move to a more exciting place.

Hi Tom, I get what you are saying. I grew up in Hollywood California. We had plenty to do, but also got in trouble frequently. That was in the 70s...now in 2017, the people are rude, streets dirty, and everyone is out to get something from you, and strangers make no eye contact. They say opposites attract...maybe so. I want to move to the UP because it sounds cold and fresh and not crowded. The folks up there seem very cool too. I have been all over the country and yes...there is so much to see that I recommend it for you. I bet after all that, you may end up back in the UP to find some peace. Good luck
