Review of Boone, North Carolina

Boone rents are high, overcrowded/expensive
Star Rating - 3/1/2024
Not sure where they got the rents from. Maybe not updated as there is nowhere to rent in Boone. Unless a student and they are paying $1000+ for 1 bedroom/bath shared kitchen/living. Jobs pay little, housing costs have forced most workers to commute from surrounding counties. Hence driving is hell. 26 mile commute takes 1hr but can take up to 2+. driving through town is liable to have you in an accident and even though the town is probably 3 miles long, expect at least 30 minutes +. There is nothing for shopping in town, mall half empty and nothing stays for long. Food stores are more $$ than off the mountain. Gas averages $0.25c/ gallon more than Wilkesboro or Lenoir. Restaurants are expensive for what you get. Vegans do have a good choice of places to eat. Seems like everything people come here for is outside of Boone; the parkway, the hikes, the fishing, skiing etc., but they all stay in Boone too. In short area fantastic but don't live in Boone or work there if you can help it.
