Tolerable enough, but boring

It's Mayberry after a growth spurt, only the scenery isn't as nice. If you're looking for Average America, this is it. No one expects anything unusual to show up (although Target coming to the area generated an unusual amount of excitement), the university students aren't overly intellectual or daring, religions and spiritual beliefs are mainstream, politics are conservative, high school students say ma'am and sir, crime is largely apartment break-ins during student holidays and breaks, restaurants are respectable family-oriented chains, and you can sit on your back porch and watch the kudzu grow if the mosquitoes aren't too bad. My theory is that there is a huge level of frustration with the blahness, because the wine shop at the local Krogers is absolutely thriving. It sure ain't just us rare heathens keeping it going. But if you're looking for a safe place to raise kids -- which is why I'm here -- this is a good place. There's not much bad influence to be had around these parts, and it's an hour's drive in most directions to anything more challenging.
