Fayetteville - it's not Fayette-nam any more
Star Rating - 10/1/2021
I've lived in the area for a little over ten years - after moving around to many, many places in my career - and I find that Fay is overall pretty much average. Most of the complaints about the crime rate, traffic, the weather, the schools, etc., are not much different than in other places that I have lived, but of course there's lots of room for improvement. Advantages are fairly mild winters, a reasonable cost of living [the BestPlaces CoL lowballs the housing costs due to the fact that Fay has a wide variety of high-end gated communities, tract houses, and crappy trailer courts], being not far from some nice Atlantic beaches, and the presence of a large military base in the area. Disadvantages are fairly hot, muggy summers, a lack of nicer restaurants and cultural venues, a long drive to the mountains, and the presence of a large military base in the area.

The policies that contribute to Fayetteville having a higher than national average poverty rate, crime rate, STDs, sex trafficking, child abductions, and the list goes on, are exactly the same policies that created the environment for Fayettenam. The city survives on state and federal grants which defines that over the decades they have not created a progrowth environment for employers that have higher salary jobs to come and set up shop. If you have a liberal ideology then this city is for you. If your version of the American dream involves government programs then this city is for you. If you want a better future and you happen to fall into the Fayetteville propaganda that the city puts out then look around. You will see that identity politics drives this city. You will see mediocre at best policies that fail to protect citizens and any question you ask of the local departments or city council representatives will be ambiguous. As their go to answer is to pass the buxk and minimize. The comment above doesn't highlight the riots, or the hundreds of guns that were stolen from from pawn shops and gun shops that contributed to the rise in homicides and other violent crimes in the city. That is management of the city that is not prepared to defend its citizens or allows its citizens to defend themselves. Read between the lines for comments because most are not specific or provide factual data. Look at the hypocrisy action... The only social slogan that this city wrote was was " black lives do matter", they didn't address Asian hatred or any other issue. Take a deep look and you will see the corruption and one sided double standard approach this city has. It has enormous potential to be a great city, but not with the current management.
