Review of Farmersville, Texas

Farmersville is a great little place to live
Star Rating - 3/15/2023
I tried to give 5 Stars, but 5th star was blocked by the text. OK. Here is my Review. I've lived here since April 2021. I moved into a brand new development and could not be happier with our new home. Covid put a real crimp on the city participating in many fun activities until mid- 2022. Christmas season they went all out. Lots of adorable decorations, fun places for kids to visit, lights everywhere, music in the streets. They tried to have a parade, the weather was bad, so it was rescheduled (not cancelled) the following week complete with Santa and horse drawn sleigh/wagon. Beautiful. There is a terrific farmers market once a month in a structure built to accommodate several different venues, with protection from the sunshine. Right next to a great city park. Our historic little town is just a block long & two streets wide, with brick streets & a gazebo in the center that plays country western songs all day. It's not just sweet and quaint but has some excellent places to eat and shop, as well. We are getting more businesses set up and I hope it will soon be much busier. Neighborhood people are still a bit standoffish, but I think it's a covid hangover, some seem to be trying to open up. I can't speak to the schools except to say there's a brand new jr college within a mile and the high & middles schools look in good condition and have nice grounds. They appear to have good community support for their activities. I find most businesses, and customers to be very friendly. My bank is less than a 1/2 mile away and very friendly. There are 2 major gas stations nearby. I appreciate that a Brookshire's is within 3/4 qtrs. of a mile, and they send someone out with me to the pkg lot to load my purchases into my car for me. I feel Safe in the pkg lot. Princeton is a short drive away with the best Walmart I've seen. And McKinney is less than 30 min drive where I can find any and everything I need. Health care has been fabulous (I had really major surgery this year-excellent hospital & dr services!). The designs of state & US highways in TX is great! I appreciate the availability of tollroads so I can bypass frontage roads with stop lights. The only drawback is hwy 380 E&W. You just have to time your travel period to avoid peak hours. I went to an 8 a.m. appt in McKinney, left at 7 a.m., was traveling a (snicker) 9 mph average on a normally 60 mph hwy. I was Late for my appt. I haven't mentioned 'weather' yet; Oh My, the weather can be 'interesting', but I've learned to keep an eye on weather reports before leaving the house. But we do NOT have SMOG. The air is clean and the skies are blue, and the clouds are big and fluffy. Gorgeous. For those of us who enjoy almost country living, close enough to facilities, but also far enough out we have to watch out for stray cows or dogs on the side roads, I love it. Interesting, too, I've met A LOT of 'transplants' from other states here. I tell the natives "I promise I won't bring CA's bad habits with me to TX". All in All, I'm very happy with my relocation to Farmersville, TX.
