Review of Omaha, Nebraska

More minuses than pluses
Star Rating - 6/30/2019
Pros:
Low cost of living
Diversified job market
World class zoo
Men’s College World Series
Moderate traffic congestion
Good schools
Good healthcare

Cons:
* Weather sucks. Can snow from Oct thru April. Summer temps can go over 100.
* Roads are awful. Pot holes are everywhere and will damage your car.
* Aggressive and rude drivers
* Nebraska Cornhusker crazy. NU football is to Omaha what the Mormon religion is to Salt Lake City. You will hear about it 24/7
* Difficult for outsiders to be accepted. Everyone who lives here is from here. Their families and friends are all from here. Therefore their social circles are already set.

As an immigrant to Omaha I could not disagree more. There are many people who are not "from here", including from other countries, just not as many as Texas, Colorado or Arizona. Social circles are much more accommodating than other places I've lived. Once you pass your "Husker 101" class you'll be fine, but if that's all you hear 24/7 you are hanging with an unusually dull crowd. The weather is midwest continental, no surprise there, but sunnier and drier than anything to the east. The only criticism I agree with is the potholes, they're terrible!

I agree Doug, except as far as the people. Not everyone's minds are already made up about social circles. That's unfortunate some people are close-minded and limit their relationships and experiences accordingly. However, it's about who you surround yourself with. Keep the faith, Omaha's better than that! And really, sounds more like Plattsmouth to me, lol!
