Review of Lynchburg, Virginia

I don’t recommend moving here
Star Rating - 11/28/2019
Our family of six moved to Lynchburg 13&1/2 years ago. I have tried my very best to fit in here and being but it has been a very difficult place to come in as a newcomer. Most of the people in this town have been here their whole lives and they’re very exclusive. If they don’t know you they don’t let you in. The reason they don’t want you in is because they already have their group of friends they’ve had for years and they don’t need or want anyone more. In order to stay in their lives you have to stay in the group. They may wave and smile around here a lot this is true but that is all and you get no closer than the surface. I’ve never met so many judgmental fault finding people as I have here.As you can see the locals are defensive and can’t see the forest for the trees. People in general here don’t know how to drive, many are very slow bc they have no lives or anywhere to get to. It is too ingrown. Grow up Lynchburg!

We have lived here 3 times. We originally moved to Lynchburg in 1973, left for several remote assignments along the way, and are back for the third time - arriving 12 years ago. The place has really changed, and I have found it much more open. However, our newere residents often are moving from elsewhere - expecting Lynchburg to be a northern city - it ain't. Although I agree with the driving comments, I believe that is partly due to the retirees from other parts or the country - drawn by low costs and good reviews. Also due to younger people texting while behind the wheel. By the way, Alice, may I suggest the Newcomers club as a way to meet people here. It really helped my wife make new friends and find things to do.
