Detroit in the desert meets mad max
Star Rating - 9/18/2018
I've lived in AZ for 8 years now and I absolutely do NOT recommend moving here, a fools paradise indeed!! first, let me start off by saying what everyone else is saying: it’s extremely overcrowded! Traffic is insane, and the people alone are enough to make you want to run, most everyone is very very very rude, extremely standoffish, having no moral principles, and will fight you for every inch of everything from traffic lanes, to parking spots, to a place in line at a movie theater, or a grocery store. These people are scavenging grubbers! and you are bound to have an altercation at some point unless you just let them get what they want and move on. Second, the homeless population is disgustingly out of control!! no matter what part of town you’re in they will have their share of people drunk or high on drugs that are living at bus stops, sleeping on the sidewalks, talking to themselves and randomly yelling, it’s EXTREMELY unsafe and the police seem to just let these people roam freely. also, the homeless's base camps are on public transportation systems and stops, especially the light rail system STAY AWAY! it’s downright lawlessness and you are guaranteed to get harassed!! Third, I don’t want to make this in any way about politics but there is a very LARGE illegal immigrant infestation here, it’s a major culture shock, lots of people don’t speak English and have gotten used to their culture being the way of life here, some parts of west and south phoenix look like Tijuana, these people have also managed to turn certain public areas like parks, malls, and neighborhoods into what their home countries look like, they have also overrun the hospitals and have overwhelmed the school systems with their abundance in kids it’s an absolute mess! And taxpayers must foot the bill. Fourth, add up everything I have mentioned so far and what are you bound to get???? you guessed it the lovely ramifications of an OUT OF CONTROL CRIME AND DRUG EPEDEMIC its Detroit in the desert meets mad max and these people can have it! Our summers are amazingly wonderful if you’re looking to visit the 7th realm of hell, it drags out into mid-October, be prepared to have the summertime blues from being indoors from the months of June through early/mid-October due to the fact that it’s too hot to do anything, don’t even try going to a public pool or the lake during this time the crowds will make you run back home. the only thing you will be able to do is stay indoors and run your A/C unit into overdrive trying to survive then paying the hefty bill. The only somewhat positive note is that the cost of living might be slightly lower compared to other states on the west coast but everything has gone up and will continue to go up in price annually due to the overcrowded issue and Californians alone moving here and adding onto it, they are also followed by their wonderful investment real estate agents that do nothing but wreak havoc on our housing market for their own profits then head back to CA leaving us with nothing but higher costs in rent and housing. I will end this review by saying phoenix is turning into L.A number 2 just without a beach and 20 degrees hotter. crowded everything, Hellfire heat, out of control traffic, lawlessness, homelessness, crime, drugs, illegal aliens, and overall horrendous people are enough to make me literally forget anything potentially positive about living here. I'm leaving this hellhole by the end of the year this place has sucked the life out of me, this dump is an absolutely terrible place to be! DON'T COME HERE WHATEVER YOU DO!!!!!!!

I totally agree I'm from Cleveland and we don't have a homeless issue like Phoenix I mean to the point that there are set ups on sidewalks and bus stops it's so foul and police just let them take over. I'm tired of this place I also think the cost of living has gotten ridiculous, what use to be a 408 a month 1 bedroom is now 770 and that's in the hood who wants to pay that to live around a bunch of burnt out people.

Cultural chasm and alienation grows exponentially with increased numbers of non-assimilating ethnic groups. This is getting worse not better. That + Dreaded Californians with their 2 million dollars sold Shack money and attitude. I agree with your assessment of the so called Real Estate agents. Uneducated Schwarmy Power couple Soccer mom types with a high school diploma maybe, and a 2 week internet course, think they are white collar pro but are really nothing more than glorified used car salesman. With Social media their jobs are becoming more and more obsolete and the extinction of this group alone will go a long way to improve the Earth. As for me, it seems a fool's errand to attempt to fight Gravity so will look to return to a place in this country with some semblance of social and cultural cohesion remaining.

Well said. I feel the same way about Phoenix. This palce would be totally chaotic if water supply is cut off. Who knows what can happen in the future. I am also planning on relocating. What state do you recommend?

Agree! This place is nothing like I imagined it to be. The housing costs and rent is ridiculous, old dirty poorly built houses I wouldn’t let my worse enemy live in. The oppressive heat lasts 5 months over 100 degrees. My dog had to be carried to a patch of grass if you can find any or her paws blistered from the asphalt. The people are dead with NO personalities, just anger and rude. The funny thing is, they seem to think they are all that. They haven’t lived in a Downtown major city obviously. The food here is bad! No seafood, poor Mexican food that doesn’t come close to Texas, and no Steak or Pizza places to compare to New York or Chicago. The job market is terrible and the pay is half of other major cities. I will never buy here, all the houses look the same, very boring. I long for green grass, very people who smile and good restaurants. We will be leaving this boring hell hole as soon as we can. BIG MISTAKE moving here, don’t waste your time or money.

Phoenix used to be a really awesome place to live. It grew too quickly and was at one time so cheap, it attracted, well..some not so affluent people. It has become a place I wouldn't live if you paid me to. So sad.

This is a very ACCURATE REVIEW OF PHOENIX , sad because it did not used to be this way, The West side of Phoenix is DEPLORABLE, DIRTY, CRIME RIDDEN, AND HOMELESSNESS ABOUNDS, NO POLICE AROUND HERE AFTER DARK EITHER

I don't get some of the negative reviews - Just move ! If you don't like it. God knows there are enough jobs in the US right now - find your 'happy' place and hit the road. Wow - what a bunch of whiners.

@Harvito this website is for reviews, people have every right to post their experiences here. if you have such a boner for this city why dont you do your part by contributing to fix the flaws people are complaining about instead of being a rude stereotypical local that so many have mentioned.

I was just there and completely agree with much of what james said here. I was staying in a hotel right off I10 at 51st Street and personally witnessed all kinds of homeless/sketchies/drug activity in the parking lots of the hotels and at the gas stations on those corners. Freeways packed liked Southern California, at least it wasn't 119 in December when I visited.
