Review of Mexico, Missouri

A getaway from the big city
Star Rating - 2/28/2021
We moved here in October 2020 from Lehigh Acres, Florida. We wanted somewhere with all 4 seasons instead of hot weather 7-8 months out of the year and cooler weather for 5 months. Well it’s been nice so far we have loved the changing of color of leaves in the fall. My kids have a blast jumping in the leaf piles which you are allowed to burn here. I was surprised by this because you couldn’t do that in Florida. You definitely feel like you have more freedom here than in Florida. Maybe it’s because it’s a small quaint and friendly town but there’s quite a few places we don’t have to wear face masks. Which it’s weird that it’s become a faux pas socially in so many places to not wear masks out in public. I miss the days where people who wore masks on their face in stores or businesses were seen as questionable or robbers and told to take their masks off. But that’s a whole different story, back to Mexico. This place has many older homes with character and charm. Coming from a town that had about 5-10 different floor plans through the whole place it’s nice. And the homes back in Lehigh were new spec homes mostly with little to no character. I like the history and the hills and trees that canopy the streets. They have really good hometown restaurants. We have tried a lot of places since being here and the local joints are better than the national chain restaurants. They have Taco Bell, Sonic, Pizza Hut, Domino’s and McDonald’s. Diner 54 serves up American style food with friendly staff it’s really good with a huge menu. Dos Arcos is a Mexican restaurant that we just tried and it’s yummy. If you don’t mind a little drive there’s Brooklyn Pizza in Fulton about a half hour drive southeast that’s good. We don’t mind driving to places to see the sites or do new things it’s actually a favorite past time. We would rather drive than live in a big city we try to avoid the biggest city, Columbia, as much as possible. But it’s got good aspects too with a lot of cool places to go too. We have only touched the surface there and don’t know much about it. For a mom of many coming from a big city where I was afraid to have my kids play outside for safety Mexico is a wonderful change. I feel safe here and that is a wonderful peace to all in my family. My kids love it here. They finally got to see snow and we even loved the Arctic temperatures and foot of snow that just came through. We are told that isn’t typical which accuweather agrees saying this area hadn’t had weather like that since 1895. It’s been a learning experience with the winter because in Florida it rarely got and stayed a whole day in the 50’s. We had to stock up on winter gear. And are still learning how to drive on ice and snow but it’s still better than sweating in January. But with a hilly park 3 minutes from our house we had a perfect place to go sledding. And we got to make our first snowmen this year. We are looking forward to seeing what spring and summer is like here. I can’t believe it has highs in the 50s and 60s in spring. We are use to having summer heat starting in March if not earlier. And I don’t think I mentioned there’s something like 14 parks in this town. We haven’t tried all of them out yet but there’s one right by our church as well as our house so convenient. And everything is a short drive getting across town only takes about 7-8 minutes. There’s no traffic here which such a nice change coming from a place with crazy drivers one of which got in a head on collision with my parents and almost killed my mom. Yeah I don’t see that happening here it’s more liking to get in an accident trying to drive on icy roads here. I love looking out my windows seeing my neighborhood with such charm it seems like something out of an idyllic movie. I am so glad we moved here and we did it site unseen from Florida. We had never even been to Missouri before this but we are so much happier here. It’s a great town and home with good people, weather, and food.
