Review of Ormond Bea,

Rotten place to live
Star Rating - 3/8/2019
Bike week 2019 has just started. I have lived here for 3 years. There is nothing here except tons of traffic, tract housing, lousy restaurants, no culture, substandard shopping, ridiculous fees and taxes, and almost nothing to do except bum around the dirty beach. If you are a professional person, or you are used to the culture and amenities of a normal city or suburb, you will hate this place like I do. Lots of rude rednecks here too.

Overdevelopment is certainly hurting Ormond Beach and traffic is worse than ever, but there are very cool houses dating back to the 1800s in the historic area, a few 1960s and 1970s neighborhoods where you won’t find cookie cutter housing but instead wonderfully renovated homes, and some gated communities. There are some independently owned restaurants in the older “downtown” area (Grind, FIG, Restaurant 31, Hull’s, etc.) as well as on the beachside (Lulu’s) where there is also a great gourmet foods shop and a new Lucky’s Market, which is fantastic. There is also La’s on Nova (in addition to others) in addition to The River Grille on the river. Downtown has scheduled art walks every so often...wine and cheese events, and the Ormond Art Museum and Gardens is a really nice little museum (MOAS is right down the road). Yes, the area is missing live music, and if you want to see plays, you do have to go elsewhere. But the beaches are some of the most beautiful along the east coast of Florida. As for the rednecks, we have noticed that are moving up this way from Daytona, so I can’t argue with that. As with many places, Ormond is a mixed bag, but, honestly, I think it’s the nicest town near/on the ocean (have you visited The Loop?!) and, outside of DeLand, one of the nicest in the county.
