Review of Tehachapi, California

Land of Four Seasons-sometimes all in one week
Star Rating - 7/28/2006
I have lived in Tehachapi for 7 months now and I would have to say that we have seen a lot of the Summer Season. Moving from the high desert to get away from the heat I am disappointed to be having such an extremely hot summer, 100-105 degrees average. Unfortunately, global warming is not something in the distant future but maybe we'll get snow again this winter. Although it was March of this year when it finally did snow.

You haven't lived here long enough to settle in to the weather! I have experienced all four seasons in one day. Or, I have experienced summer in winter or vice versa. It isn't boring. We have more churches than bars. We have more bedroom communities than congestion. Each Bedroom community has it's own personality. Bakersfield (lotsa shopping) is 40 minutes to the west and Lancaster/Palmdale (lotsa shopping) is 40/55 minutes to the east and south. We are getting our own Walmart and Hospital in 2018. We have enough and at reasonable prices here on the hill! The area is beautiful and the people are nice. I have lived all over So. CA and would recommend it heartily. Many are employed at either Edwards AFB thirty minutes out of town or at the Calif. Prison at the edge of town.

E W is right. Each year is an adventure with the weather and I love it. Tehachapi is not exempt from difficult weather such as drought, etc. However, the average weather is much nicer than Antelope Valley and quite a bit nicer at night particularly than Simi Valley in Ventura County where I come from. I can't stand to be hot at night and over 10 years I've found that Tehachapi always cools down enough at night that I can run a fan (only needed on the hottest days a few times a year) and be quite comfortable. No need to run A/C all night long just to sleep. I live in Stallion Springs and just love that everyone waves. They don't need to know you to welcome you to town. Definitely several steps up from City living. Only wish I moved there sooner! L T
