Review of Gillette, Wyoming

Good schools and jobs; industrial and ugly
Star Rating - 2/5/2020
I've lived here several times - adding up to around 37 of my 45 years - and I can't wait to leave. As soon as my youngest graduates from high school I am out of here. The schools are good, the Recreation Center is really nice, and most of the people are friendly. And although Gillette is mostly an industrial eyesore, it is only an hour to the beautiful Black Hills or the Bighorn Mountains. The winters are long, cold, and windy. It's almost always windy. Most of the people are conservative to a fault, and not open to listening to differing ideas. Meth is a big problem. Housing and rentals are expensive. It's been a decent place to raise a family, but there are much nicer towns to live in.

Chris, If you had your pick of places to live near Gillette, where would you suggest?

I hope you get the chance to live in a few other states! I have had that chance but have lived in Wyoming most of my life. I have only been in Gillette for a week so far so I have not had much interaction with the people yet. However, I have lived in Cheyenne, Chugwater, Wheatland, Douglas, Glenrock, and Casper throughout my life. So far I’d have to say I like Gillette the best with Casper my 2nd choice. Sometimes you have to experience other places to know that what you already have is more than what you know. Gillette has better rental prices than most of the country right now! It is compatible to other places around the state. The drug problem is literally everywhere in the US from what I can tell. I don’t think the is a single town not affected by drugs. The cold and wind is just a part of Wyoming that we have to accept living here! I honestly missed the wind while I was recently away for 7 months. The air was so stagnant where we were staying, it was yuck! Wyoming has no bugs, no humidity, and pure freedom! In other states you can’t even talk about guns without people reporting you for being a threat! People here are so polite and friendly while in other places you have to watch your back because everyone is out to turn you in for anything you do that they do not like. You have no idea how nice you have it here! Please visit or live somewhere else so you can learn to appreciate what you have right here!

I would also like to know what places you would recommend. You say that there are much nicer towns to live in. Could you name a few?
