Review of Elkin, North Carolina

Been here 10+ years and loving it!
Star Rating - 12/13/2017
My family and I also live in State Road, which is just a few miles outside of Elkin. Let's start with the many many amazing things about the area:

1) The Elkin School system is very highly ranked and regarded. They send a ton of kids to great schools and in general the kids are super nice.

2) The locals really work hard to make their community better. Our trails systems is incredible and growing each year, thanks to a small group of people who grew into a larger group of people, who did an incredible about of work to make that all happen. One can walk (or mountain bike) for miles, eventually going all the way to Stone Mountain, and all on very nice, well maintained trails.

Another example is our downtown. True, it will take some time to really get the downtown hopping, but again a few local individuals have spent their hard earned time and money to lay the groundwork for future success.

The Liberty Building, which anchors downtown and was formerly just an old building with broken windows, was completely redone and is now a happening brewery, sports bar and large event center.

On the other side of town the Reeves Theater was completely gutted and restored in 2017 and is now one of the premier, restored music and entertainment events in the country.

In between those two projects another building was completely gutted and restored into the Wanderlust art gallery, they feature some amazing local art as well offering many live musical events with beer / wine on the weekends.

All of these projects (and many more), and the trails system were all completed in the last several years. That's an amazing amount of progress in just a few short years. Much work remains to be done, however the community seems 100% committed to making that happen.

3) Other great things about Elin / State Road / Joesville are the vibrant brewery / winery scene. Skull Camp Brewing, Elkin Creek Vineyards, Jones Von Drehl, Raffaldini's, Angry Troll Brewing, McRitchie Vineyards, these are all either in Elkin / State Road or within a 5 to 10 minute drive.

Stone Mountain State Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway are just up the road as well. We even have Fiber Internet and I have 100mb /sec internet at my home.

So this whole post took me about 30 minutes and I am now tired....I have much more to write. Needless to say, if you are considering relocating or visiting the Elkin area, please consider Elkin. The town is committed to making the area a vibrant place to visit and live and given enough time, I am confidant you would enjoy calling this place your home!
