Review of Bullhead City, Arizona

Good Place to Raise Kids and Retire
Star Rating - 1/26/2018
My husband and I retired here after losing our home during the economic downturn. Priced out of CA, we looked to this town as we vacationed here often and loved the river vibe. Well this little town was easy to start over in...we’ve been here over 6 years and own a home again.. Casino jobs are minimum wage but plentiful. Some bigger companies are moving in slowly. The traffic is always manageable and one long parkway takes you from the community college to the casinos in 15 minuets tops. The desert beauty has really intoxicated both of us and we’ve taken up hiking and rock hunting. Summers are brutal...last summer it was

120 for a week straight. And it stays just under 120 most Of the early summer. We make the River our friend, lots of swimming, fishing, then napping w a good A/C and box fans. Black out curtains, road trips out of town, etc...all help. Chores in the evening . Many stores are open 24 hours. Whatever works. I tell you, without that summer heat, this town would be overcrowded..so I’m glad it’s part of BHC life. The summers are bookended w the monsoon seasons which are wild and exciting but humid. The Rest of the year, it’s better than beautiful. In the 70s perfect for golfing, off roading, hiking, riding, whatever’s your thing. Across the River Good entertainment comes through all the time. We had Kid Rock and Toby Keith within weeks of each other last fall. Buffets galore, casino game tournaments, (many free to enter ), cheap current movies, barbecue fests, car shows, etc..senior discounts on most events. The BHC side of the River is more family oriented w inexpensive housing, several city parks with baseball and circus ride festivals plus a Water Park and miniature golf, 2 Walmarts and many, many big box stores and fast food restaurants..I do shop online to retain some individuality as there is none here .the young families, starting out here, tell me they like it here. It’s cheap. They can afford vacations, etc..by living here.

New baseball fields and another bridge over to Nevada are in the works, supposedly. Crime is mild compared to CA and is mainly property crime. Homelessness and addiction are found in pockets through the city, as they are in every American city. The towns population is transient and/ or snowbirds, so it took us awhile to start making friends, esp me. But the people we have befriended have been extremely loyal and helpful to us through some medical issues we’ve had. In short, we love it here most of the time.
