Charlotte is not the city that it is hyped up to be. This city does promote the image and actis like it wants to be world class, but it falls short. I have been here 6 years and would like to leave, but the economy and job market says 'not so fast my friend'. My issues with charlotte are the fact that if you are going to promote this 'major city' image, back it up. The light on the highways have not worked for the entire time i have been here, it is a dark ride on interstate 77, and the major blvds through this city, you might as well be in rural kentucky. Also this city does not have a zoo, an aquarium, a major downtown city park, no natural landmarks 'think central park or a riverfront' too many trees , and the infrastructure is substandard. In addition yes it is a racist city, if you do not believe me click on to charlotteobserver.com and look for any story involving african americans or race and click on the comments..here you will see what the real mentality of the people here are. It is pathetic, now dont get me wrong there are some good people and great things about charlotte, but it is not what you think. The job market is not great and if you are not into banking, religion, nascar or segregating with people who only look like you 'that goes for black, whit and hispanic' then you may be lost here, because although it is a diverse city, there are no minglings amongst the different people. I have always said charlotte lacks 3 importanth things: a major college, a strong government or military presence or tourism, if charlotte had those things this place would develop into a great city, but until then it is just a southern 'big town'.
