Review of Norfolk, Nebraska

Great family place!
Star Rating - 7/18/2020
Moved here 16 years ago from OH/IN area. Great place to raise kids, great place for elderly. People are community-minded. Yes, it is 1.5-2 hours away from any major city, but this contributes to Norfolk’s safety, friendliness, and a lesser impact to the community from major national crisis. Norfolk felt only a small degree of impact from the 2009 recession and came back faster than most of the US. Low COVID19 spread. Amenities include downtown revitalization, local restaurants, water park, bike and walking trails, state-of-the-art library, large regional hospital, most any medical specialty, senior citizen apartments and assisted living, K-12 public and Lutheran and Catholic schools, 2-year college, and large YMCA. Even moved my elderly parents here! Negatives include about a month of 90+ degrees in summer, about a month of -10 nights in winter, blizzard/tornado potential (doesn’t happen yearly). Very high property taxes, but overall lower cost of living than in most of the US. Low unemployment and lots of job growth.
