Review of Statesville, North Carolina

Not so good...
Star Rating - 8/20/2007
I recently moved to Troutman, NC and unfortunately I'm not very far from Statesville... I do most of my shopping and leisure activities in the Mooresville area. I'm actually quite surprised at how slummy Statesville is. There are areas that are so run down and "ghetto" that I locked my car doors the few times I have passed through. Run down houses with grass 2 feet high...broken windows, cars sitting on blocks, just plain trashy. There are certain areas that are much nicer and well kept. Some of the stores/shopping centers there look a century old and quite frankly I aviod them. Just recently here, an innocent man was taking a walk in the downtown statesville area and got beaten by 8 teenagers..he died a few days later... so if I were you I would be wary of where you were and when. As for the industry/jobs.. there's not much going on. I have lived all over the united states and to tell you the truth, parts of Statesville remind me of southern California. Just run down and old.....

I have lived in Statesville (bordering Troutman) for a little over a year. So far I think it's the best move I could have made. I was living in Waldorf Maryland, whoose crime rate is reported as 5 for violent crime by this site. Believe me it's a whole different world here in Statesville. Every town in this country has it's bad "sides". The south side of Statesville has always been it's bain. But even at it's worst I feel much safer here than I did in Waldorf. Statesville is an old town. That's part of the reason I moved here last year. It's quaint and YOU need to explore a little more as there are a lot of GOOD things happening here.

Feel like I stepped into a time portal and went back fifty years ago to the past. People are very racist here from the police to the bank tellers and real estate agents. If you are not white they look down on you as if you are scum and they are better than you. Even if you have money to spend they are blatantly and openly racist and don't even want to rent to you or want your money. When you go into their businesses and stores to purchase anything they follow you around. I hate this backwards town full of ugly racist people and cant wait to leave here. If you want to raise your family in a nice town with respectful people who welcome and value diversity do not come here.
