6/27/2012studentI had a good experience at Eldorado and found the teachers very engaging. If I moved back to Albuquerque, I would be happy to send my own children there.
8/25/2010studentThis school has it all. An active involved administration, excellent teachers and challenging courses. This school offers it all, and students will be engaged and enjoy the learning experience.
8/10/2010otherEHS has a lot of good things going for it. There is a sense that teachers understand that students have unique learning requirements and do their best to develop lesson plans that engage them, rather than simply generating busy work. Some jaded teachers teach only to the test and not to the students. The challenges teachers face, however, is a lack of general support from administration. The administration seems more pre-occupied by throwing their weight around as administrators with offices far removed from the classrooms, teachers, and students to really care about the experiences of those within the classrooms. Parents are given attention, but seemingly only based on their income. Solutions to problems are not often addressed; rather, a sense of finding someone to blame for the problems is more prevalent. The overall sense of student safety continues to be a growing concern, and little administrative support is given for discipline.
10/13/2009otherI used to go to Eldorado and it was the best school I have ever been to. It is much beter than the one I am going to now, and I felt that I had many more options in what classes I was able to take. Also, the courses were challenging enough so that I was able to learn well and excell in school, but not so hard as to cripple everyone who attempted to take those courses.
10/4/2009parentEldorado High School is filled with hard working and dedicated teachers who do whatever they can to help their students succeed. Because it is not a Title I school, most of the state and federal funding for education passes the school by. Most teachers purchase whatever supplies they need out of their own pocket and they are actually getting ready to cut the funding resources for electives like art and foreign language. This is one of the few schools in the district that actually offers ceramics, photography, painting/drawing, Spanish, French, and German. We want these programs to continue so that students have the opportunity to obtain the best education possible and maintain the school's mission to instill a lifelong love of learning for all students.
3/6/2009parentI've had two children attend Eldorado. They have both excelled in English. The school has done the best they have with the assets they've been given to give the best quality education available.
2/8/2009studentBest school ever. Teachers are great and friendly. Parents need to ask their kids what they think of it rather than making the judgement themselves.
12/28/2008parentThis is one of the best schools in the city. My daughters are both in college and excelling from the excellent preparation at this high school. The staff was absolutely fantastic (especially the science department) and helped my children to realize their future endeavors and goals. I could not imagine having sent my kids anywhere else.
10/18/2008parentMy child went to Eldorado until the end of 11Th grade. The teachers and admin. staff are totally incompetent. the security staff is a joke, and harasses students on a daily basis. They are a perfect example of someone with too much power. This has to be the worst high school in the heights.
8/28/2008parentEldorado has been a joke since the day it opened its doors. Today (2008) same-as-it-ever-was: Consistently indifferent teachers (like head of math department too lazy to teach math, teacher of Chemistry who knows zero about chemistry, week-long movie screenings in lieu of lesson plans, and dufus projects like making and coloring comic books to learn about literature--in high School!) This school would make a great third grade experience for the average child of that age. Your tax dollars at work.
4/16/2007parentSpecial education teacher Deborah Garcia is the best I've ever encountered
12/13/2006parentI am ashamed by the teachers here. They are more interesed in getting batteries, kleenex and germ stuff than TEACHING. My student was failing three classes and I had to call, e-mail and go to the school to get some help with what he was doing. The counselors are lacking also. APS needs to get back to why they are here'TO TEACH'
6/12/2006parentChose to be in El Dorado district over others because of: welcoming and open nature of administration, ninth grade academy, and lack of snooty attitude. Pleased with our special needs daughters' ninth grade year. Most teachers made real effort to stay in contact. Had minor issue with one; worked out with help of counselor and ninth grade advocate. Wish the physical plant were a bit shinier, but not a huge detriment. Would recommend anyone coming to ABQ to interview at ALL high schools you might be interested in.
6/9/2006parentMy child just finished freshman year. The music department (band) is outstanding. BUT... mean spirited, disaffected teachers, overwhelmed admin. and a dangerous campus are perculating under the surface of this school. If your student hase ANY special needs he will not find it here or any other APS public high school.
4/9/2006parentMy daughter is a freshman at Eldorado. The choir and drama depts there are outstanding however some of the teachers (especially Cseko) can be quite demanding in their expectations. They had to do a project that cost me over 100 dollars! I work a 12 hr shift and i am a single parent. It is ridicoulous to have to put that much work into a highschool level project. I did 4 years of college and never had to do anything that demanding!
6/15/2005parentMy child has completed the ninth grade at El- Dorado High School and has learned alot about Romero and Juliet, and geography. His knowledge of geography came at a very high price however since he was required to rent a costume [$50] , laminate and bind a report [$8], and prepare a regional dish from a country he was researching {$12] in order to merely pass the class. I'm a single parent of several children, work two jobs, and don't have the money, time, or education to assist him in any of his assignments. I can't afford Eldorado, and as a result, he will drop out of school before he graduates. Where is the common sense in this assignment? It cost me $70.
5/31/2005former studentI graduated from Eldorado in 97. We moved into the district during my junior year of HS - the teachers, students and staff were all very friendly and helpful and made the transistion very easy. The teachers were caring and involved and while there could have been more honors/ AP courses, there was a good selection and a program that offered community college courses on campus so you could get both HS.
5/5/2005parentBureaucratically top heavy. Totally incapable of stimulating a gift student or offering suggestions regarding alternatives. Schools leadership seemed to be a place to park incompetent teaching staff.
3/11/2004former studentEldorado is the best high school in the country. The teachers are amazing, especially Johns (both), Pompa, King, Dunn, Henry, Geissler, McDougall, Veitch, Kahl, and Weidner. Thanks for making my high school years so awesome! I'll never forget you guys.
