8/31/2010otherStinson is a great school! I've been there for 6th in 2008-2009 and for 7th 2009-2010. It's one of the best schools I've ever been in and trust me I've been going to a lot of schools. As lucky as I was I had to move and that was heartbreaking for me! It's like if there was something in that school that it was the reason why I didn't want to go. Anyway even though I'm a General now I will always know that I'm a SKYHAWK by heart!!GO SKYHAWKS<3
8/10/2010parentMy daughter started 6th grade in 2009 and it was the worst first year in middle school she ever had to experience. This is due to the limited control of students that were displaying very inappropriate behavior and the staff's lack of involvement. Because my daughter had such a horrible experience we are now trying Private schools just to try to keep her motivated about school.
11/15/2008parentToo many teachers are really rude to the kids and they don t appear to care that they are being rude. I don t have to hear this from my child, I can walk down the halls and hear it coming from the classrooms myself. Kids who unfortunately didn t pass the TAKS test are given a special gift that lets the whole school know that they were one of the kids not passing the test. The kids can t even discretely hide this gift away from view to avoid humiliation. Shame and lowering self-esteem seems to be how this school has decided to motivate. The principal is a figure-head. He is not a good leader or communicator that s for sure. While there are exceptions, many staff at this school don t even try to communicate to parents in a timely, courteous and knowledgeable manner. Why did this school score an 8 from GreatSchools?
5/13/2008parenthorrible teachers and lesons! my daughter dosnt know 6th grade material but is in eighth
11/5/2007studentStinson's teachers are wonderful. They were always there for me when I needed help or just wanted to talk. There's a bunch of activities, something for everyone to enjoy. All of the staff is friendly and nobody ever made me feel uncomfortable. Stinson is a great school. Go Skyhawks. -Class of 2011 student
8/8/2007parentOur family made the best decision to leave Stinson Middle School in the summer before eighth grade. Moving to another middle school gave us the opportunity to see what a good school is really like. At Stinson Middle School, my child received detention and in-school-suspension for the most ridiculous reasons. The response regarding her behavior was that children change and act out when they go to middle school. At the middle school we transferred to my daughter excelled as never before. She even received a Silver Star Award recognizing her for citizenship, leadership and a positive attitude. My message to the staff is to encourage the students, and to view them as good kids, who are willing to learn, rather than the juvenile delinquents that you seem to think they are.
7/24/2007parentStinson has many wonderful teachers, but it is very overcrowded and impersonal. The first week of school I requested some changes in my son's schedule that I thought would improve his experience his first year in middle school and was denied any changes whatsoever. I doubt my requests even made it past the counselor to the principal's office. They just don't like to make changes, because they have too many kids to personalize any child's education experience, in my opinion. The counselors offer little/no help , and did nothing for either my daughter when she attended, or my son. I'm glad our residential area was zoned for the new middle school 'Jefferson'. I'm sure it will eventually become just as crowded, but maybe he'll have a better chance at a more personalized education and his parent's input will be appreciated.
3/14/2007parentThe transition from elementary school to middle school was difficult for my son, who also felt overwhelmed by the crowded conditions at Stinson. With the support of his counselor and teachers, he succeeded in overcoming his fears. Getting involved in the school band also helped him gain confidence in himself. Stinson has an outstanding band program under the direction of award winning teachers, Mrs. Esparza and Mr. Melendez!
2/13/2006parentMy son attended this son. He thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere considering he came from a small school environment. All kids, teachers, and parents were kind.
8/20/2005parentTeachers at this school are good. The principal lacks leadership and discipline. He doesn't believe the children should be disciplined. They should learn by their mistakes and not be aware of the boundaries.
7/26/2005parentway too overcrowded - the child is a number not a student...
5/17/2003 Mr. Frantzen is a fabulous principal and the teachers we have experienced have been way above average! Stinson has many of those teachers 'that change lives'. We have been VERY happy with our Middle School experience
