Manalapan, NJ is a township located in Monmouth County with a long history of strong political ties. With a population of just over 39,000 people, the town is politically active and engaged with local politics. The Township Committee is the elected legislative body and consists of five members who are elected at-large on a partisan basis for staggered three-year terms; each year one or two members are up for re-election. The Republican Party has traditionally had a stronghold in Manalapan, having held the majority on the Township Committee since the 1970s. Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won.
