Review of Salt Lake City U,

Don't get fooled by fake smiles
Star Rating - 2/19/2021
I've lived in Salt Lake City almost for six years. Each place can have negative aspects like traffic jams, cost of living, crime and climate etc. However, this city has more unique features. As a gay person of color who works in STEM I met many kind people. But I also met weirdly unfriendly people and fake-friendly people with passive aggressive attitudes. Although SLC is known as the most diverse place in Utah, it still has very homogeneous culture, mentality and life style. I really can not see any advantages on any other city aside from the relatively safe downtown which is lack of vibe and actually like a ghost town. Religion is over powerful and it forms most aspects of life such as work, relationships, leisure, politics etc. It is quite likely to be treated differently in school and at work, if you are not white. This is a perfect place for white outdoorsy conservatives and the people who tend to convert.

Salt Lake City has a very high crime rate for some reason. My car got vandalized three times in two years. Moron legislation rules the place, period. They decide what time the clubs close, what days you can buy your drinks, or whether you, as a non-Mormon should work for their companies. Lots of crooks, while collar criminals and passive aggressive racists live here. Passive aggressiveness is a given in Utah. The winter inversions are getting worse, which cause all sorts of respiratory and mental illnesses. They don't care. The air is China level dirty in the winters. The rent went up four time in five years. All the apartment units are old, moldy, and price wise, compare to more luxurious apartments in Denver or Austin. The newer apartments go for $1200-1400 which is insane for the city of this caliber. Two stars due to accessibility of nature, outdoors activities, lack of traffic. It's also a very scenic state if you're into outdoorsy stuff.

I've lived here for 11 years, and you do have to get used to the state. What I've learned is that people here are oftentimes just weird and treat everyone like the "fake-nice" people do in other places. I thought the exact same thing. For the first year I lived here, I wanted to run away (I was still under 18) and never come back. But after about ten months or so, I stopped giving a shi* about what other people said or did. I actually think that allowed me to become a better chemistry student. I was really good–like REALLY good. But then life got in the way and I was injured. I'm sorry, world! I was going to bless you by finding a cure for cancer!
