10/28/2008otherI rated this school average. Their proficiency ratings have fell to 67.8% in reading and 83.3% in math. I feel the school is overcrowded and the teachers do not have the time for the children falling behind. They claim the student teacher ratio is 20 to 1. That is not true. Its more an average of 25 to 1. With classes that size they should have teachers aids. There are kids falling behind and being left there, and if they are not grasping what the teacher is trying to teach them, They will just give up. So when they are showing their ratings for grades 3 and higher, ask them to back up and show how well the 1st and 2nd grades doing. what happened to No Child Left Behind. I am presently looking into additional help for a student. More money on top of school taxes.
1/30/2008parentThis school has great teachers, good test results, and a dedicated principal. However, it is overcrowded, a problem exacerbated by the closing of two local elementary schools. Maybe 25+ kids to a classroom would not be an issue if teachers were given aids, but that doesn't happen. As a result, I feel that students are not always getting the individualized attention they need and deserve to reach their potential, and therefore the school will have a hard time reaching its potential, especially in the coming years as crowding worsens. Also, the 'two campus' issue- not a fun one for parents of multiple children. Younger students are in the 'little' building because the main 'new' building was too small from day one to house all of the students.

9/25/2005parentthis is a great school, my daughter is in 2nd grade and we have found the teacher she had last year was great, her principal is very hands on and involved and the whole staff is professional. The class always has homework and the teachers even take time from the lunch hour to speak with you if you are there. Even my kid loves the place! now THAT is rare! The rest of the district should follow Mr L's (Principal) lead and also the only prob there is that the district will take a teacher out of class to move to diff school, and Mr L not only answered our concerns immediately but also was very angry and tried to stop the transfer or at least get a sub. The school is GREAT.. pittsburgh school district needs to follow THEM! Thanks for a way to praise them.
