My home town what have they done to it. - 10/1/2011
I'm 47yrs old was born in glendale AZ but lived in phoenix all
my life and have watched as the city gets worse and worse over the years.

The culprit ? well thats an easy one there are way too many people living here and that doesn't even include all the people who are gere illegally..in my opinion over population is the root cause of most of the problems here the traffic the pollution the crime the drugs etc etc.
the list goes on.

you know that saying the more the better that is completely false
this place is too hot and too well sourounded by mountains which hold the pollution in i drive all over the city for work so i see alot
and i see how people are nowadays and i don't like it i hate to say it but it seems like at least half the people are either ignorant or insane or both based on what i've seen over the years but i should point out that a great many people here are originally from other places
and felt free to bring their Read More

Horrible City - Don't move there - 9/16/2011
Phoenix is hot, ugly and polluted. There are few good jobs there. The pay is awful compared to the cost of living. It is a buyers market for labor so they don't HAVE to pay decent money.
The people are rude, snobby(don't you just love uneducated snobs?), ill-mannered, ruthless, cruel, selfish, shallow, stand-offish, aloof, uncaring, poorly educated, and critical(do as I say, not as I do). There is a lot of white trash and most people there came to Phoenix because they couldn't make it anywhere else. They wore out their welcomes back home. They strut into town thinking they are conquering heroes.
As far as multi-culturalism is concerned, if gangs, crime, drugs and government dependency is YOUR definition of it then good for you - but not for me. Bad behavioe seems to be rewarded in Phoenix.
There is ZERO culture. Culture in Phoenix consists of vomitting in the parking lot of a sleazy country western bar parking lot after you've had too many Miller Lites.

People knocking Phx. - 9/1/2011
I see a lot of people knocking the Phoenix metro area. I lived here for 15 yrs. and moved to colorado for four years (aurora), and came back. Why? for some reason I just liked not having to scrape the ice off the windshield, dealing with unplowed roads, having to go 3 miles just to find something for groceries, and cherry creek state park screws up everything as it sits in the middle of the city. None of the roads connect properly...you could be driving in downtown denver and each street name will change from one side to the other. For example, where I lived in aurora, the same road north and south changed names 3 times...try and find an address. If you want to take a drive into the mountains, you could expect the 70 to be backed up for miles, the 25 is worse than the 17, 10, 60 during any time of the day here. You could go to bed at night during october, and wake up to 8 inches of heavy snow by holloween...and then try to get to work on time. At least in the Phx. metro area, you Read More

What a pit!! - 8/22/2011
I moved out here with my girlfriend because she was accepted into graduate school at Arizona State. More often than not, people in Phoenix are total scrapers, barely getting by and more interested in finding the many manipulative ways to express sub-human, anti-social behavior. There is a level of laziness and hopelessness so prevalent in Phoenix, I found myself not taking anything people say seriously. I don't know what ruins my day more: dealing with the assortment of roaches, spiders, snakes, termites and scorpions or dealing with people in Phoenix. Arizona public schools offers the second lowest level of education in this country, and it shows. My career specializes in Information Technology which requires working with various companies. Jobs pay crap. I see accountants, finacial advisors and other professionals making far less here than they would in other cities, and have consistently heard this sentiment. I know a bugeting/projections advisor who normally made 60k-100K Read More

The Rocky City - 8/7/2011
I've been in Phoenix since November 1998. I can't believe I'm still here. I had originally intended on staying a year or two and then moving on to Austin, TX. Each time that I've tried to leave, something has stopped me. Literally. I've had my bags packed and moving van scheduled several times now. I'm beginning to think the Universe is conspiring against me. Phoenix is interesting but only if your favorite color is brown and you love extremely hot weather, which lasts here seven months out of the year. The cost of living is low but so are the wages. It's not uncommon to be offered $8.50 to $10 per hour to start for an average job and for this they want the moon. In my line of work, accounting, I could easily make $50-60K per year in a city this size anywhere else in the U.S. (Phoenix is the sixth largest city in the U.S.) but here I'm lucky to make $36K. The water quality is one of the worst in the U.S. (and increasingly scarce with the ever growing population) as is the air quality. Read More

Water Concerns - 8/2/2011
Phoenix at one time was a sleepy desert city that was a winter getaway for snowbirds. Then around the late 60s-early 70s a bunch of Californians moved there to escape the high cost of living in their state. By the 80s-90s, Midwesterners, tired of snowy winters, joined the Californians in the mass immigration into the state. Magically, the small town turned into a huge megalopolis almost overnight. People have pointed to the problems with Phoenix and I'm not going to chime in much. However, two things that kind of baffle me is when people complain about the Phoenix "culture" and how hot it is in the summer. People move to Phoenix because they don't want to live in NYC, SF or Chicago, they want mild winters. Also, what did you expect with living in the desert? The main reason for this post is to point out the quiet, but huge, elephant in the room. People don't talk much about the water problem. Phoenix wasn't meant to be occupied by a million some people. Water is pumped in every year, Read More

Ugly,barren , very brown w/ little greenery and HO - 5/23/2011
If there is any redeeming feature to Phoenix it is not readily apparent to the naked eye. The heat is oppressive and it is quite hot from April to October...hot in the morning, hot all day and even hot when the sun sets. We walk at night hoping to escape the heat and return in sweat drenced clothing because it is so hot. And then 7AM the next morning it is still as hot as before. The heat kills just about everything except some cacti. Forbid placing any pet outside or attempting to grow a garden for the heat just kills everything(unless you can afford continual irrigation). And the depressing barren, brown mountains, where again, nothing grows? Sedona is a good 2 hours away but if you need greenery, soft cool breezes and exhiliarating hiking, then you need to make the trek. Overall,Phoenix depresses the heck out of me. I need a place where there is some rain and things can grow and your pets don't fry outside. I'm out of Read More

Why I'm here - 5/10/2011
The weather is fabulous in the winter, spring and fall. Summers can be extremely hot, being in a sauna most describes it.

This is the best that phoenix has to offer. Outside of the weather, there isn't much to offer. Read More

GREAT PLACE TO BE... - 5/1/2011
We recently relocated from central OC,CA. We were so stressed and broke. Did not matter how much money was earned, you needed to pay it all out for rent, bills, and cost of living. So we made the move to Phoenix, AZ. We love it! Our kids are thriving! I had to get used to customer service again, it had been a while since I experienced generally nice people while in a retail or grocery store. I like it here because it is friendly, but not overly intrusive. I can raise my kids, and finally get to know them. Our stress level has decreased 1,000 times. I dont really care about night life, if I was interested in that I would be in California or New York. This place is calm and easy... Not all perfect, I do see a lot of mentally disturbed individuals hanging around parking lots. I think that is anywhere you go??. If you were moving to raise a family, you can do it here... rent a house for a family of 5 for $850.00 per month and minimum wage is the same as CA.... I would have never imagined Read More
