Scottsdale's wealth is not real - 8/7/2010
I used to live in the Phoenix area and don’t like Scottsdale at all. Everything is overrated and overpriced. Many people in Scottsdale waste their life keeping up with the Jones and forget about whats most important in life. They wont admit it, but most people in Scottsdale are financially insecure because they have bought everything on credit. They are on the eve of bankruptcy as they are up to their eyeballs in debt, upside down on their inflated mortgage, and have a hard time paying for their overpriced car loan. As the housing market in Arizona and the Phoenix area continues to go to the dogs, many Scottsdaleites are upside down on their inflated mortgage. But hey, its OK because its Scottsdale. Right??

The people are haughty, materialistic and unhappy. You get weird looks from people at the mall or a trendy restaurant if, God forbid, you only look ‘average’ or drive and average car. A neighbor of a close friend of mine in Scottsdale (who is genuine in his kindness) Read More

If you think this isnt a police state...think agai - 5/1/2010
The sherrifs and police here act like they are above the law and continually get away with it. They regularly harass innocent citizens and overstep their boundaries for minor offenses. This is not specualation-it has been reported many times and they are being sued constantly.

I am your typical college-educated white male who had never committed a crime more serious than a traffic offense and I was assaulted, tazered/electrocuted and arrested in Scottsdale by off duty sheriffs a few years ago. They then made up a bunch of lies in their reports to cover each other to make it appear more serious than just a case of mistaken identity. The alleged crime was that I had made an inappropriate remark to someone at a concert on my birthday....never happened. I was forced to plea or face more serious charges in court with the only real evidence being my word.

I doubt this is uncommon here-just look up how they "accidentally" did it to one of their own just a few Read More

Unbelievable! ...Sheriffs are reallly as bad as th - 4/30/2010
I had several great experiences and one very horrible one.

Ill start by telling you that I am a college educated, white male in my mid/late 20's, had never been arrested in my life and have never acted aggresively or disrespectfully towards anyone. In fact, I am a physical therapy assistant/LMT so most of my day I spend helping people heal from pain and injuries, etc.

Around 2005, I was at a concert in Scottsdale for my birthday and went outside to look for my friends during the middle of the show. Before I knew it, a security/off-duty sheriff comes up behind me in an attempt to handcuff me because some girl had pointed in my direction claiming that I had called them a name. I had not, but before I or anyone was given an opportunity to explain or say anything I was being shoved up against a vehicle, tazered to the ground several times(until I nearly passed out) and then assaulted by a group (acting as a mob) of security/off-duty sherrifs. Great restaurants, terrible people - 2/4/2010
I lived in Scottsdale for a few of my years in Arizona. It's a fun town with lots of fantastic restaurants, fun wine bars, and a great singles scene if you're a young man with money in his pocket and not looking for a serious relationship. My wife and I still go back and visit once a year or so for the food, but would never live there again due to the miserable pretentious people. I'm a very successful entrepreneur, and instead of embracing me, the locals with their leased BMWs and Rolexes bought on credit snubbed me because they absolutely can't stand the presence of someone who is truly successful. Scottsdale is a haven of phonies who live on over-extended credit and HELOC loans. I packed my bags and moved to a city full of real successful people and have found it to be far friendlier here.

It's downright unfriendly and in fact we never even met most of our neighbors. They would come home, pull into the garage, and close the door as soon as the bumper cleared in order Read More

Scottsdale Culture summary in a nutshell~ - 12/10/2009
I lived there for a year, being a transplant like most ..i moved from Albany, Ny.I loved Scottsdale, although the exaggerated pretentiousness of the locals at times got to me, but i still didn't mind taking there money as a Professional Barber there. Yes there is great deal of money there to be made in the beautification field and as a massage therapist you can do well just the same. Alot of people are willing to pay for the finer things in life there, if not to outdo the neighbors*.You will soon catch onto the local lingo of outsiders such as the word (snottsdale) too funny! but you will still appreciate the area for its amenities.. Boutiques are plentiful and shopping is fab,the dining was thee best! as a woman i had a ball there. Beautiful weather, hot and mild and sunsets are so relaxing, taking a trip up into the hills with the 11+ million dollar homes was also at times nice to admire. I couldnt help but appreciate the pristine landscape on a daily there as well, it's still the best Read More

General Info on Scottsdale - 10/26/2009
Scottsdale is broken into two main sectors North and South. Most of south Scottsdale is becomming more unfavorable. North Scottsdale is beautiful, but housing costs even in the downturned market are un-affordable for the average income.

Clean, new and nice views - 7/25/2009
I moved to Scottsdale a few years ago from the east coast and some of the main things that I noticed upon moving here is that most everything in Scottsdale and the Phoenix metro area is new and there is a wide array of people from around the US and the world here - mostly transplants from somewhere else. There are also a ton of nice golf courses here so if you are into golf this place is perfect. The FBR open is held in Scottsdale every year.

Overall, my experience here has been a good one. There are lots of great restaurants, tons of conveniences, overall the people are friendly, the weather is good for many months out of the year and the surrounding mountains add natural beauty that many cities lack. There are also lots of nice spas and places to shop. Plus, Sedona - aka Red Rock Country - and in my opinion one of the most beautiful places in the US is only about an hour and half or so away and makes for a great weekend getaway.

There are some cons Read More
