Born & raised in L.A., after 47 years, it's time t - 5/6/2006
After looking at many other cities (potential places to move to) on this site, and reading the comments, it's clear people take themselves where ever they go. A change of Geopgraphy may seem like it will automatically change ones life, but that is mostly self-induced wishful thinking. There are 8 Million+ people in Los Angeles county. It's basically a decent sized state to itself. Therefore, there are all the positive things and the negative things to contend with, just like every place else on the planet. Neighborhoods are generally close knit, where people own homes. But at $500K for a inner-city house, one needs to do a financial reality check before considering relocating here. If one can not deal with diversity, this is the last place on earth you need to be. Ther is no worse traffic or rainy day drivers than L.A. as well. L.A. WAS the place to be, up until the 1984 Olympics, and has gone downhill since. But there is hope. The secret here is to find one of the 100's of Read More

Northridge - 4/27/2006
Northridge is in the San Fernando Valley and is officially part of Los Angeles, though Los Angeles is made up of communities which it has absorbed. Thus, communities retain their old names. The cost of living here is high. Median price for a home is $600K. Gasoline taxes are high, also. The weather is great, though, as are employment Read More

Northridge - 4/27/2006
Northridge is in the San Fernando Valley and is officially a part of the city of Los Angeles. We live right by the California State University Northridge campus. Our local high school is Granada Hills High School, the largest charter school in the state. They have a great marching band, which is why we moved here from Canoga Park, also in the San Fernando Valley. Our daughter plays flute and we wanted her to be in a good music program, which Granada Hills High School has. Housing is very expensive, median price is Read More

Life in LA - 4/19/2006
I specifically live in North Hollywood. Anyone thinking of coming here--DON'T!! If you want to NEVER be able to buy a house, want to work for WAY too little money, spend 95% of your time in traffic & have no sense of community/neighborliness/caring, then this is your dream city! I am from here my whole life (except for 2 yrs in Las Vegas--not for me & 2 years in San Diego--enjoyed living there, beautiful city, but it is quickly becoming a smaller version of LA), so believe me I know what I am talking about. I cannot WAIT to get the hell outta here! It is just getting worse and worse. Best thing of course is the weather, but frankly I'd LIKE to have an actual 4 seasons! People are horrible on the roadways (rude/angry/road raged out), people are soooo superficial here--into their money, money, money, looks, image, what car they drive and other 'bling' they can show off. People that come here to be actors, etc. are in for a rude awakening. Show biz is AWFUL--if most people only Read More

The Truth About LA... - 3/6/2006
Honestly in my almost 23 years of living in Los Angeles, I have seen this place change a lot. Besides hearing the stories of my parents and grandparents who have been here for over a 100 years. First I'll tell you the good, so you have a fair comparison. LA does have the best of almost anything your looking for. Except I have to disagree on the Beaches. I'll explain later. The Malls are great, you can find almost any store you need within 20 miles. You can go to the snow, be at the beach in the afternoon and still make it to an evening sports game in the same day. There is a lot of business opportunity, where you can basically be anything you want to be. Your only about 1-3 hours from beautiful Califonia country, including some of the best wineries. Oh, and the weather is probably the best you'll ever have. One last great thing, there are a lot of great restaurants that are unbeliveable.
Now for the bad. Where do I start? I live 10 mile from work. On average it takes me Read More

I hate living here - 3/1/2006
I actualy live in the city of North Hollywood. I have been living here since I was 5. I am now 28 and a mother of two. I believe that this has become the worst city to live in. I think that 80% of the population lives on a pay check to pay check situation. The rent is extremely high and the living standards are too sorry to even call them poor. The landlords have got to be the most heartless persons in the world. I hate it as soon as I can I will gladly say "I am leaving Read More
