Great Place for Me! - 12/24/2021
Well from reading the reviews one would not live here. I think that's a ruse because I'm going on 9 years in the town and I love it. Now if your from the South then your conservative juices don't get their attention. I lived in 9 States and everyone of them have pluses and minuses. Ukiah is awesome because as an outdoorsman I can do so many different things within 2 hrs of my house! I could not fill that void anywhere else. I don't lock my doors half the time. Yes your going to see pot grown! Oh my God the world is coming to an end! The people that get bustef for doing that kind of stuff are the small group of methheads that run around at all hours of the morning. Weather is fantastic and the people are nice if you allow yourself to engage with them. Hope this helps..Read More

Ukiah has allowed itself to become Hell!! So sad!! - 9/14/2021

If you are reading this, then do not buy into what some AI robotic paragraph of text says from Google.

Here it is from a real person, a real ex-citizen. If you Google "Ukiah reviews", for the most part, you will see that it is no place for anyone that wishes for a good quality of life. But, here is what Google preview says, and then here is the truth.

Google: "Ukiah is known for its nature and vineyards".

NO, IT IS NOT. It’s known for marijuana, and illegal cartels with more weapons than the police, and the crime that is associated with pot grows, and the theft of water, and degradation of forest land, water sources and the like. And horrible crime. Nature and vineyards? Who makes this stuff up??

Google says, “so if that is something that you and your family, friends, or significant other enjoy, stay a while”.

Do you like crime? Do you like when most of the people driving on the road past midnite are drunk, Read More

Ukiah not for most people - 5/13/2021
I am a transplant from Los Angeles/OC and have lived here for 6 years. Thankfully I do not live in the city of Ukiah. I live in the east hills and am in my 40s trying to raise my child. Ukiah is not for most people. I've read each of these reviews and all of them have pieces of accuracy in their criticism. Nothing to do for kids. Very few parks. But beautiful hiking. No bowling, mini golf or fun centers. Schools are not great. The middle school in particular is awful. Few neighborhoods to feel safe just riding a bike outside. And yes. Cannabis and homelessness/mentally ill population issues dominate the city and county government landscape to a degree intolerable for most. This is the county seat for public services and there's no shortage of those looking to just live off of handouts. Homeless encampments popping up then being torn down is now a constant battle within the city and the area around it. It hurts local businesses when the parking lots and doorways are occupied or Read More

PATHETIC!!!!! - 1/30/2021
Ukiah is the armpit of Northern California. Full of homeless, drunks, gangs, wife abusers, lazy overpaid politicians, and ignorant stupid citizens.

Simply read the police reports in the Daily Journal. Public drunkenness arrests in the middle of the day, every day.

Homeless being asked to move from sleeping the post office at least once a week. Where do you think they go to the bathroom?

Vandalism, trespassing, burglary, dog bites, shoplifting, gunshots, domestic battery. Ukiah has it all in abundance.

Drive down State street. You will find people wielding chain saws with no trees around, or machetes with no pineapples around.

Or derelicts walking naked down the middle of the street. Homeless are everywhere you look because this is not abated, it is actually encouraged.

Ask now many people have OD’ed in the parking lot of Plowshares. I dare you. Sure, make sure that the junkies are fed well.

A horrible place for kids, seniors, and maybe you! - 5/19/2020
Ukiah is a dump. Government officials are foolish lazy overpaid losers.

Arrogant homeless do whatever wherever they want.

The Palace Hotel, a dangerous and decrepit building sits as the crown jewel in the middle of town.

Drug needles and trash are everywhere. Vehicles and boats get dumped anywhere.

The town has little pride, no tourism, no jobs, no solutions, no direction, and no future.

And good luck finding a doctor with a rating more than 3.

There is not enough money on the planet to support all of the charity needs.
Give them a dollar, and they ask for 2.

The kids are illiterate because the school system is a failure.

The local newspaper is thin as toilet paper, and it's only good when used as such.

The town seems concerned with only one thing, marijuana.

There is a welcome sign out in front of Plowshares, which feeds the homeless but Read More

Expensive terrible housing, Too many pot growers - 3/30/2020
The economy is simply propped up by cannabis growers. Ukiah's growth is personally stunted by those on the city council. The main issue is homelessness which eat most of the resources. The idea of providing quality and available housing is their last concern. Housing is run down and start at 1.6k for a 2bd and 1.8k for a 3bd. Quality homes start at 2.4k. The nearest quality conveniences and health services are 50 miles away.
I'd leave if I could. Ukiah is Read More

Housing Crisis - 2/29/2016
The cost of housing on this site has not been updated.
As of 2/29/16:
Rentals:
$600/mth will rent a single bedroom in a communal home.
$1,000/mth for a 2 bedroom apt; 2 bedroom house is $1,400 and up. None of these will have a decent yard or garage, and they will be in very bad neighborhoods - not a place you want to raise your children.
A nice home with yard and garage will cost well over $2,000/mth.
Homes for sale:
Prices start at $275,000, even for homes in very poor condition.
Even at these prices, there is an extreme shortage of housing. My husband and I are professionals with good income, and we've been living in a travel trailer for a year because we cannot find anything suitable at an affordable Read More

Liberal and stoned in paradise - 7/1/2006
Ukiah is about two hours north of San Francisco which explains its liberal slant. Marijuana use is common as the county (Mendocino) is part of the well known Emerald Triangle. Emerald Triangle refers to the three counties of Mendocino, Humboldt, and Trinity in Northern California where marijuana production is commonplace.

Although the cost of living is high and the wages are low, the great weather, rugged coast, redwood forests, lakes, vineyards and mountains make the area an outdoorsman’s paradise.Read More
