Good areas bad areas - 5/3/2009
My wife and I are moving to Fort Collins in the fall of 2009 so that she can go to graduate school at CSU. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where some good places to look for apartments are (good area, bad area) and what construction jobs are like there right now,

Not a friendly place - 4/29/2009
I moved to Fort Collins, CO in September of 2008 as a job transfer. I have lived all over the southern United States and I have found CO to be one of the most unfriendly places I have ever been. It is unquestionably beautiful here, the climate is great, the views are great and there are lots of recreational things to do. But I have never in my life had such a difficult time connecting with people. They just seem to have the attitude that if you're not from here, you're not welcome. So after only a scant 8 months in the area, I've decided to move back to the South, where people are actually nice and welcome you into a

This is a great place to live if you're a hermit. Don't plan on being welcomed by the locals. They are very threatened by us "transplants." If you don't need to make a living and don't want a social life, then this place is for

Fort Collins is truly a great place to live. - 12/8/2008
Fort Collins is great because of climate, location and of course, Colorado State University. This town is full of very active and educated people who have great respect for one another. The parks and bike trails are used by people of all ages. The median price range to own a home is around $230K but you can spend much more or less. There are some great micro breweries and festivals

It is nice but... - 11/9/2008
There is so much building going on here, it reminds me of FLorida and what happened there. I have met more people from CA than from anywhere else, and they come b/c of the cost of living being so much lower than there!
On the plus side, there is a lot to do here and it seems as if there are lots of activities. However, in terms of affordable housing, a lot of what I have seen is in areas where there is a high percentage of crime, despite all the reports for low crime. If you check out the diff crime websites, you will see that the crime in Ft Collins is above average for the US, which is somewhat startling, considering how it is being touted as a 'low crime' area.
I have met some friendly people here, but there are many (who I suspect are from out of state) who try to mow you down while driving or crossing the street. I fear that Ft C is changing too quickly and will be more like California in the next few years. My plan is to stay here for a few more

Great place to live, cool downtown, easy to get around. College kids can be a bit of a pain. Property owners seem to have a pride of ownership in their homes. The weather is terrific however it can be a hard place to grow anything because of the lack of rain. Fort Collins is Heaven on earth for anyone who likes great

Fort Collins, I call it home - 8/3/2008
I have lived in many different states and have travelled extensively in all 48 continental states. Living in Fort Collins for seven plus years and a transplant from another HIGHLY RATED place to live, Johnson County KS - Fort Collins stands heads and shoulders above any place I have every lived. And I have travelled extensively in all 48 continental states. The climate is a secret that I hope DOESN'T get out....mild in the winter, mostly mild in the summer, cools off tremendously at night (5000 ft. plus altitude does that), relatively still cheaper than other Front Range cities, excellent school system, great parks and city infrastructure. Hey the city has been rated as one of the most educated, one of the best places to retire, one of the best places to raise a family, one of the best places for active lifestyles...by many different media- Forbes, Money, USAtoday, etc.. Within 30 days of moving here I decided it was the place I wanted to stay. EVEN to the point of not taking a
