Fort Collins, Colorado is a city that consistently ranks high on lists of the best places to live in the United States. It is known for its thriving economy, outdoor recreation opportunities, and overall quality of life. However, like any place, it has its pros and cons. Here, we will take a look at what real users have to say about living in Fort Collins based on their personal experiences.

In contrast, "John" shares a different perspective, stating, "The cost of living in Fort Collins is high, and it's not as affordable as it used to be. Traffic has also become a major issue." He also mentions the increasing number of chain businesses and the loss of locally-owned shops.

Meanwhile, "Samantha" describes Fort Collins as a "perfect mix of small-town charm and big-city amenities." She appreciates the abundance of parks and outdoor spaces, as well as the variety of restaurants and entertainment options.

Another user, "Mark," expresses his frustrations with the local government, saying, "Fort Collins has a tendency to over-regulate and make it difficult for small businesses to thrive. It can also be difficult to find affordable housing, especially for young professionals."

Overall, it seems that the majority of users enjoy living in Fort Collins, citing its friendly community, outdoor activities, and overall quality of life. However, there are also concerns about the rising cost of living, traffic, and the impact of the city's growth on local businesses.

Weather - 5/12/2008
Winters can be too long. For instance, one should not plant flowers until Mother's Day; just incase of a last minute frost. There are many days when the sun will shine through out the year, but this can be deceptive. Fortunately or unfortunately the weather will Read More

Fort Collins, is nice, but getting too exspensive - 11/12/2007
I like Fort Collins, but it is becoming too exspensive to live in these days. I do not have any real quarrels with this city. I think that it is a great place to raise a family if you have a high paying job. There are a lot of the great outdoor activities close by and they are a pet friendly Read More

Small Town Mentality - 10/29/2007
I moved to Fort Collins based on comments from friends who had been living here several years. I am disappointed in how this town does not plan for street repair and bringing in economy but rather on open land purchases. It is nice to have walking trails near my house and the country side close by but the number of people living in this area has outgrown the city planning. I can use any number of trails or parks in the nearby state and national parks. I think the city should have spent money more wisely. The overall plan for a city with lots of parks is a nice idea but the town is not growing with the population but rather staying stagnat. The people who are native to Fort Collins are not as friendly as you would expect. Many are prejudiced against the Hispanic population. There is very little diversity even with the college. I don't plan on living here much Read More

Stinky Town - 8/6/2007
We moved to Fort Collins a year ago to be in an acceptable climate with clean air and fairly high culture and growth potential. We were completely off on the later two requirements. Fort Collins is indeed a very pretty little college town with wonderful warm people, near access to an international airport in Denver, and apparently decent health facilities for those with insurance. However, home prices are in my opinion relatively high because of its inclusion on the Money Magazine's best place to live list a couple years ago, and the economy is in a slump with high white collar unemployment and depressed wages. Also, the town smells strongly of cow manure 7 or 8 months out of the year due primrily to the presence of a meat packing plant and stock yards to the Southeast. This previous winter was one of the harshest in recent history and the city has inadequate snow removal budgets for such an event. As in many cities, the summer temperatures spiked to record levels on several days this Read More

Disclaimer about previous statement, just FYI - 6/15/2007
The previous statement about Floridians moving to Carolinas, that's not true, at least here in NC. All of our newcomers are pure yankees:)
I think whatever part of the country you move to, if there is a huge contingency of people moving with you, from the same area, you will be perceived negatively by some. For example, here in NC if people move from NY, NJ, PA etc there are those that aren't too happy about that, but if someone comes here from Utah, no one Read More

How about Floridians? - 6/15/2007
Lots of folks are fleeing Florida these days. Many go to the Carolinas and Tennessee and get the same cold treatment the Californians are complaining about in Fort Collins. I spent four days there earlier this month and found the people generally friendly, the views beautiful, and the cost of living favorable. So I'm considering Fort Collins for retirement.

Is there an underlying distaste for all Read More
