Fort Lauderdale, FL - 1/11/2012
Living in Fort Lauderdale definately has its fine points. Its got great beaches and resteraunts. Shopping is good if you have a few bucks. Appartments and housing are pretty reasonable. And the people are just "ok". But you can still find some good friends and have fun. On a scale of 0-10, I'd give it a six in regards to all around liveability. Its really hot from April - November but its great cuz there are little snow birds here Read More

Exciting place to live - 12/22/2011
Ft. Lauderdale to me is perfect in so many ways. It is a great size, offering diverse neighborhoods, ranging from suburban to true downtown areas. I lived in Boca Raton most of my life and must say that this area is much more exciting. Some parts of Ft. Lauderdale are a little gritty compared to Boca, but I think it offers a lot more character. Read More

Living in Fort Lauderdale - 7/2/2010
I moved to South Florida in 1990 from New York and have not looked back. If you love being outdoors 365 days a year then this is the place to be. The weather is wonderful year round. Even when it's hot outside you can go into an airconditioned home, car or restaurant. And speaking of restaurants, there are so many to choose from you can never be bored. Last night I ate at Smith and Jones on Las Olas. It was fabulous. Living in downtown Fort Lauderdale is especially convenient as you can get to the aiport, beaches, restaurants and shops within 10 minutes. If you want to do a little gambling that might take you 20 minutes. I am a local Realtor and now is the time to buy here as interest rates are the lowest in 50 years. Plenty to do - 10/23/2009
Fort Lauderdale is no longer from the movie Where the boys are. It is all grown up. It is a major city, with plenty of entertainment, resturants, and city living.
The winters are wonderful weather wise, but a haven for people running from the cold. It is definately a tourist town, and can slow everyone down.
The beaches are kept clean, and there is plenty of space for everyone.
The Seminole Indians have created gambling casinos, that are not only beautiful to visit, but have plenty of entertainment, and all different types of eating establishment
All in all you will love it here if you are into the fast Read More

Life in Fort Lauderdale - 10/8/2009
Prior to moving here about 10 years ago (2000) I have been visiting Ft. Lauderdale for 25 years. Arriving in the winter for a vacation of 20-30 days. Just about always residing in a beach hotel or one of the nicer smallers hotel a few blocks from the beach, dinning in the nicer restaurants, sunninng at the beach made for a relaxing vacation. The last week of my hard earned vacation my wife and children flew from Boston to join me.
By 2001 I was getting divorced, I spent three months in S. California, but then winter arrived and as habit dictated I hopped a flight to Ft. Lauderdale. Once again checking into a nicer hotel I enjoyed my month, but this time it was different because I really had nowhere to hand my hat. So instead of flying back to California I stayed here.
I rented a unit, purchased bedding and such, after a year of doing nothing (which was fine with me) I happened to met a nice lady and in a flash we were a couple. We purchased a house and together started a Read More

Native South Floridian looking to get out!!!! - 9/27/2009
Please save yourself the stress and look elsewhere to live. This place is awful, even for me, a lifelong 30 year old South Floridian who is "used to it". Crime is through the roof, people are rude, the city is racially divided, and the populace is waaaay too congested. South FL is the beacon for refugees from Cuba and Haiti. There are many poor neighborhoods around here- within blocks of the nicer areas. Every year, all the bohemians fly to fort lauderdale to shop at Wal-Mart during "tax free week". Winter is overloaded with snowbirds, causing our already congested roads to come to a grinding halt every year. In Fort Lauderdale, you learn how to become an aggressive driver real quick, lest you get cut off or ran off the road entirely. This is no paradise. I remember when I was a little kid, things were different. Our beaches actually had life in them- fish, crabs, etc. Now that is a thing of the past, unless you are willing to drive down to the Keys. People dump tires, shopping carts, Read More

Perfect place for greedy folks obsessed with vanit - 1/25/2009
Nice weather for some of year. Too hot for the rest. Hurricanes are bad. Everything overpriced, service is generally poor. Many vagrants wondering around like zombies especially in Hollywood. People are transient so nobody gets to know anyone else. It is like having a rental car in that nobody seems to care about other people down here. But everyone sure is Read More
