I don't get it. - 10/5/2021
This particular place is where I call home. I've never seen a sign at our borders that said anything about staying out if you're dark skinned. I've never seen anyone call anyone a racist term here, hell I ain't never seen a POC feel low down in this town. But hey, if you been here less than me (26 years) feel free to take your petty, worthless opinion to Bestplaces.net and write a "zero stars" review on mine and your hometown. Some of these reviews don't even make sense. For instance, Dylan from Colorado Springs. His hometown is Jay. And I might add that the family names he complained about people having...were his last name. He grew up fine and wealthy. Very wealthy.. But here he is complaining about not having the right name. Others call it a predatory town. Where? Where are all these predators? Where are all these racists? And if the school is so bad why in the Sam Hell have some of the teachers at Jay school won/ been nominated for teacher of the year in FL? I'll never have Read More

Zero Stars - 8/2/2019
I grew up in Jay and lived there up until I was 19. Living there was absolute hell for so many reasons. The population is very small and 98% white people. Most of the population is racist, homophobic, and hypocritical “Christian” people. They use religion as a mask when the town is filled with drug activity and sex offenders, just check the registered sex offenders map for yourself if you want to verify. The school had a few teachers that really cared and wanted to educate- Mrs. Williamson and Mrs. Youngblood were amazing. However, athletics are the main focus of the school and coaches who are also teachers don’t even pretend to teach the students. Your last name also determines everything, as students with prominent families get special treatment and don’t even try to hide it. I was valedictorian of my class and participated in sports and clubs, and even having an involved and relatively positive experience personally, I would not recommend letting your child grow up there. The school is terrible, and sex crimes are rampant - 9/5/2018
I've lived here for six years now, since I was fifteen. The only school is small: I graduated in a class of somewhere around 50, I believe. The most interesting thing about that is that when I started attending my freshman year we were a class of 72. Most who dropped out were girls who got pregnant. Not only is sex-ed severely lacking at Jay high school, there's actually a disproportionately large number of predators in this town. I don't know more than a handful of women who weren't sexually assaulted before they were 18. The whole school was; last time I checked; deeply religious. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, except that the excess of Christianity made most of the staff blind to blatant violations of other's freedom of religion. I was ousted, hated, and bullied for refusing to let my teacher force me to watch a hate-based "Christian" movie. I was raised as a Jehovah's witnesses until I was thirteen. I may have left my faith for personal reasons, but the kind of people that Read More

Grew up in this area - 3/15/2017
My parents moved to jay when I was 11 y/o. Admittedly the worst move of their life. The people are ignorant and racist. The school tolerates bullying because it is out of control and the parents of the kids who bully are no better than the kids. My parents had the good sense to send my brothers and I out of the area to school so we went on to college. There is a great deal of what people would define as white trash in Jay. People who promote generational welfare. They don't mind working for cash as they don't have to pay taxes while stealing everyone else's tax payments into the welfare system. You see Parents and Grandparents grooming their kids for a life of food stamps, ssi, unemployment...It is Read More

Inbred racist little town - 2/9/2017
Wow I can not say enough about this dreadful little town. Until a few years ago they had signs up stating to not be in town after dark if your skin was dark. The racist attitude is only trumped by the overall ignorance. Welfare is a a staple of the population and not situational welfare but generational welfare. People telling their children from grade school level that as soon as they turn 18 it is time to apply for additional welfare programs. The kids who manage to get through high school without being pregnant and on wic, ebt... run for their lives and don't look back. Drugs have overrun the town. We bought a home here when we retired 9 years ago and have regretted it since. The only thing that fuels this town is their small minds and any gossip that ignites them. They are a miserable group of people, almost all related because they don't seem to understand that just because you have different mothers, if you have the same father you ARE related and so they breed like dogs Read More
