2. "I have lived in Miami my whole life and I absolutely love it. The beaches, food, and nightlife are unbeatable. However, it is a very fast-paced and crowded city, so if you prefer a quieter and slower lifestyle, Miami may not be the best fit for you." - MariaS

Racism is Alive! - 8/17/2009
Maybe I'm naive, but I was shocked to see the level of racism I saw while on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. I am a Spanish major and went to Little Havana for the cultural experience. People were looking at me as if I were Fidel himself. At a gas station, a white guy next to me just started calling black people "n******". Give me a break! Be strong, break the status quo, and see people for their personalities, not their skin hues!! Over here, on the West Coast, we've managed to progress beyond this

transportation - 7/14/2009
There is a lot of traffic, unless it's late at night. The is a metro-rail which run mostly north/south, but only covers a small part of the city. I haven't taken the buses in a long time, but they usually don't look too crowded.. i don't know if that's a good thing

LIVING IN MIAMI FOR OVER 20 YEARS - 6/12/2009
The weather in Miami is very nice for most part of the year,
except for the summer months.During the summer it rains a lot.
I would say that the best thing about Miami is the weather.
The population in Miami is overwhelmingly latin. There are many
activities to do but there is not much of a choice as far as
exposure to different cultures, because most activities are
related to Cubans mainly ,Colombians and other latin american cultures.
I am latin, but I would like to have more exposure to other cultures.
There are certain areas in Miami that have more of a mix of people, but those are only a couple, like Coral Gables and Miami Beach.
Unemployment here is very high and is very competitive. As
far as housing goes, for the past few years, the prices of houses
have gone up tremendously, and now there is a high percentage of
foreclosures.
I hope this information

Horrible kloaka - 5/13/2009
I have been living in Miami for 10 months by now. There is corruption everywhere and a lot of crime. I have already been assaulted during daylight at the gas station, robbed, had my house burglarized, become a victim of hit-and run, had to sue real estate agent for selling me the house without a roof, principal at a school refused to employ me further for using a bathroom more than once during the 7-hour work day (one was during my lunch). i tried to appeal citation for trash, they never sent me a hearing notice, just put a lien on my house). Drivers are extremely rude, cut in front of you without any signals, do not how to drive, honk at your if you do not start driving immediately the trafiic light changes, I hear shhotings outside my house every other day, property taxes are outrageous: 7% of the value of the house, small claims litigation costs $ 300 to file. Horrible!
ATMs cannot be found anywhere close: only at the banks. When you go to downtown to the opera or ballet, you

Miami: The myths and realities - 5/13/2009
OK so to anyone who has never been to Miami, here is one thing you must know: Miami FL and Miami Beach FL are TWO SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT PLACES. Miami Beach lies across Biscayne Bay. As for Miami, It is a big, ugly and I do mean ugly, boring ,and overcrowded place. The traffic is the worst you will ever see, Miami has been rated as the worst in the US for road rage. Also, from Thursday to Sunday, the number of drunk drivers on the roads are ridiculous, due to the back and forth from the clubs on the beach and the new club scene downtown, so beware. I grew up in Miami and moved away 12 years ago and can't tell you how glad I am that I did. I still visit my family at least 3 times a year, but the unemployment, dead real estate market and hum drum lifestyle of the city keep me from ever returning. The weather is hot, humid, and it rains for 6 months out of the year. People here are generally very rude no matter where you go or who you are. As for the housing and real estate, it

Nothing but evil and hatred in the air - 4/21/2009
All that Miami has going for is weather, which is really only nice for about half the year and then becomes so unbearably hot and humid that you don't even want to step outside for more than 30 seconds. Go from one air conditioned cavern to another. Everyone hates each other and is miserable, which might have something to do with the incredible heterogeneous makeup of the population. Forget about friendly people or smiling faces and any public realm worth visiting, other than the Chili's and Friday's in the local commercial district just to get out of the house and see other human beings not behind the wheel of their car while you yell at them for cutting you off in traffic. The movie theater is ok too, but its dark and private in there and you don't have to look at anyone or have anyone look at you and be succumb to their judgement and hatred of you for existing and taking up valuable diminishing resources. People here spend hours a day in their cars driving to no apparent

Miami is overhyped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 4/12/2009
Do not move tp this city, it is overhyped and the landlords are shadedy!!!!! Rental properties that are dumps and ghetto are priced outrageously, 850.00 a month for a place that resembles Beirut or Bagdhad. The decision to move there was one of the worst mistakes of my life; but I corrected it within 48 hours. I got out just as quickly as I

Come and be part of the future, MIami is HOT. - 11/11/2008
Miami is HOT. Yes we get Hurricanes, cost of living is on the high side and there are a lot of languages spoken.
If you like normal or simple this is not for you. If you like and are up for the challenge of an international flavor, nice weather, a beautiful city and people, lots of outdoors, What are you waiting? Miami is a city going thru growing pains in steroids, and is best for people with the energy to deal with it. Infrastructure is the best, if not the best in the country, almost everything is new, Highways, Ports, Airports, ect. If you like to travel the airport is close and with direct connections to mayors cities around the world north, south, east or west of the border. If you don“t like to fly take the train or a cruise. With the downturn on the housing market no better time to buy a world class address before they go back up, way up. Sports? wish one you like, we have them all except snow related, for those we just fly in for the fun not the work. Beach? the best

A Love Hate Relationship - 10/24/2008
I have been a resident of Miami since 1984 when moved here during my senior year in college. I was attracted by the sun ,sea and wonderful mixture of nationalities. The sun and sea are still great, but I have almost reached my limit with the rudeness of people and everyone assuming I speak Spanish (I am fluent in it, but learned it to travel to Spanish speaking countries). There are many very nice considerate people of races and ethnicities here, but it seems that year after year the number is dwindling (of course that seems to be the norm in many places) Sad really. If you can get beyond this, great. If not and you want to live with the sun and sand, you may want to try other parts of the great state of
