Great little town! - 2/15/2021
We've lived a few parts of the country over the years and when we moved to Evans in 2018 we didn't know what to expect but we hoped for the best for ourselves and our two younger kids. So after two years all I can say is we nailed it. Evans and Columbia county is by far one of the best places we've ever lived. Tax dollars go back into the county for roads, library, parks and facilities. People hate on Evans and Columbia Co. for a reason. We absolutely love the town, parks, restaurants, people and everything else that comes with it. So if you are considering moving to GA, Evans should be on your short list and you will not regret Read More

Not for someone who enjoys the beauty of life - 9/9/2018
Moved to this area in 2011 so I have 7 years of observations. If you like boring, this is it. If you think a high rated public school education is a reason to spend too much money on cookie cutter, low quality contractor neighborhoods ... this place is for you. This is not to denigrate teachers in any way. My mother taught in the public school system for near 40 years and I know how hard she worked to teach someone else's children who should have been taught at home first.

Nightlife: non-existent.
Activities: River and lake or golf ...
Food: If you love chain restaurants ... truly good food prepared by local chefs that actually enjoy cooking and serving up delicious food ... you won't find it. Of the restaurants I have dined in, I have learned that people will pay to eat anything ... and by anything, I mean terrible food.
Arts: None to speak of. But feigning interest in the arts is not something I "do".

Excellent! - 7/10/2018
Love it here, the cost of living is very reasonable compared to job growth and opportunities. Lots of public events and concerts all year round in the Evans Town Center - worth looking into living Read More

Environut Nightmare - 1/6/2007
Yes, I agree with Miles about Evans' cookie-cutter image. Like most suburbs, there is no public transportation. If you can't drive, you'll have to find someone to drive you or call a cab.

I hope Derrick's comments don't reflect the sentiments of the overall population. Statistically, Columbia County is about 80% white and very republican, but this doesn't mean that everyone in Evans has to conform to one another.

I live in Augusta and work in Martinez (near Evans). I never encounter traffic until I wait for several stop light changes at Columbia Road near my workplace. Now there are plans for yet another big box center in this area with no plans for road improvements.

Evans may be a nice place to live if you require a giant home and need to feel "safe". But, beware of the boring surroundings and extra travel time.

The leadership in Columbia County needs to realize the impact of continued development. They want to keep Read More

Excellent Place for Children - 6/17/2006
We just moved here about a month ago and find Evans GA to be excellent as far as family life goes. The Augusta parents magazine has lots to offer as far as childrens activities and area events. We love living here and have found it to be very family oriented. We have heard the school system here is some of the best in Read More

Strip Malls and Cookie Cutter Subdivisions - 5/25/2006
Evans could be any generic suburb in the USA. Lacking any intrinsic character or charm, it is a hodgepodge of bland strip malls, franchise restaurants, and monotonous subdivisions with a maximum of two or three architectural styles.
Having access to an automibile is necessary, as walking to anything in Evans is virtually impossible. There are virtually no sidewalks and there is no public transportation. There is a retirement home across from one of the largest Shopping Centers, where on a daily basis you will see elderly residents braving life and limb to cross a dangerous 4 lane highway with no crosswalk to go shopping. Children are virtually imprisoned in their podlike subdivisions, unable to visit friends unless Mom or Dad haul them in the SUV.
The local government is run by realestate speculators and developers, and their mantra is "All Growth is Good" , despite if it puts a burden on the taxpayers, roads,a nd overcrowds the schools. The local government Read More
