Savannah is a popular city located in Georgia, known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and charming Southern culture. To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Savannah, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.
According to John, who has lived in Savannah for 5 years, "Savannah is a beautiful city with a lot of character and charm. The historic district is a must-see, and there are plenty of great restaurants and shops to explore. However, the cost of living can be high, and the traffic can get pretty hectic during tourist season."
Another resident, Sarah, shares her thoughts on the city: "Living in Savannah feels like being part of a tight-knit community. The people here are friendly, and there are always events and festivals happening. Plus, the beach is just a short drive away, which is perfect for weekend getaways."

Finally, Emily, who recently moved to Savannah, shares her first impressions: "I've only been here for a few months, but I am already in love with this city. The weather is great, and there is always something to do. I do wish the public transportation system was better, though."
Overall, it seems that most people enjoy living in Savannah for its charm and sense of community, but there are some concerns about the cost of living, job market, and transportation. It is always helpful to read multiple reviews and gather different perspectives before making a decision about living in a new place.

Nervous in "The Garden" - 5/9/2007
Crime is the issue du jour with Savannians, both native-born and arrivist. We have an underclass of approximately 40% that are over-represented in the negative social indicators and sadly under-represented in any kind of community development or personal category. The underclass is predominately, but not exclusively, black, and this racial divide intrudes into every effort and conversation aimed at overall community development. The public schools have a few success stories (Savannah Arts Academy, for instance) but but a legacy of underinvestment is hampering current progress. The overall black community is socially conservative, but too many households are one parent homes with the missing parents having little or no interest in their children. Crime is heavily reported, but the main victims are in the African-American and underclass communities. But this reality is trumped by the ongoing fear of being mugged or shot. The economy is beginning to shift to more high tech lines, but

Savannah - One of the best kept secrets of the Sou - 4/15/2007
Having just read the commentary of a fellow Yankee who found Savannah to be one of the worst places in which he has ever lived, I felt compelled to rebut his editorial. I grew up in NYC and settled here 15 years ago. I now consider myself a native.
First, let me confirm that it is hot in the summer - but no hotter than many other more northern cities at that time of year. Never, however, have I seen a heat index of 120 degrees. Furthermore, the heat of summer is the price we pay for the climate we have during the rest of the year, which is generally glorious.
Second, if you're an incurable big city snob (as I was when I lived in NYC), you'll not like Savannah due to it's pictureque squares, historic significance, original Georgian architecture (remember, Sherman spared Savannah on his march through the South) and relaxed southern lifestyle. - Fortunately I moved to Savannah and was cured!
Third, although the public school system leaves much

Not a good place to live - 3/21/2007
I lived in Savannah from 2002-2004 and it was probably one of the most undesirable places I've ever lived in, like Toledo OH, Raleigh, NC, and Chesapeake, VA This city was very disappointing and undesirable. Firstly, the climate is just unbearable in the summer. It gets HUMID and it's uncommon for the heat index to be in the 120s+ on some days. Next, the air quality is very poor due to the swamps, factories, etc and isn't good for an allergy sufferer like myself. Being from the north, the people were NOT very welcoming and friendly towards me and some acted like I was from another planet. Not to mention the crime and gangs. There are MANY gangs roaming the streets especially downtown....if you go out in the day, carry protection...and DON'T go out at night!!
My wife and I have two young children that (at first) attended the public schools. The schools were nice, but the quality was awful and they weren't safe due to the large presence of gangs that were

I miss Savannah! - 12/19/2006
I recently moved away from the Savannah area due to a job transfer. Now I am trying to move back! The grass is not always greener on the other side. I am saddened by all the negative comments I have read here about Savannah. Savannah is not perfect, but it has a lot to offer. It is so unique; not your anytown USA. For anyone wanting only franchised stores and restaurants, this is not your kind of town.
There is good reason why so many come to visit Savannah each year. Many of the restaurants in Savannah are unbelievably good. Try Fernando's Italian on Congress St, Elizabeth's on 37th, the Pink House, or the Casbah. Antiques, art galleries, and gift shops abound downtown. It is a great city to poke around in. I lived there for 5 years and still discovered a new place everytime I went downtown. City Market can't be beat for its live entertainment, shops, bars, and restaurants. The city's squares are just breathtakingly beautiful. The architecture is amazing. The

savannah aka hell - 10/26/2006
You see my parents grew up in Savannah, and if there is one thing I always remembered that my mother frikkin hated it when she was growing up. So what did I do? Well, I moved down here from Atlanta. Big, fat, friggin mistake. The "public transportation" is a joke. There's no train. Half the bus drivers are preoccupied from their simple job of driving by taking ten minute long phone calls. The weather is atrocious during the summer. This summer alone, the heat index was anywhere from 105 to 115 for almost a week! The crime here is just atrocious. And every other day, it some poor, dienfranchised, dreadlocked, smugging, ugly youth. I've been to New York City twice and have gone out alone, all by myself and felt totally safe at midnight. Here, I try to avoid staying out after the sun goes down. Some places are just too creepy to walk by alone- and those are the suppossedly safe places. And it smells. My God it smells. It smells awful. It's not just the paper mills, but

Stay away from Savannah!!!!! - 10/3/2006
I am a Savannah native. I am 37 years old now and boy has it changed! It was Utopia growing up there. I have great memories, but in the past 15 years, it has become a living nightmare of crime and racism. Racism in the fact that if you are of the caucasian persuasion, you are mistreated everywhere you go by African Americans and I'm not the least bit racist. This is a fact. It makes me sad because Savannah has become one of the most dangerous and hateful cities you will ever live in. My parents are selling our family house of 47 years because their lives are in jeapordy just going to the corner store. I fear for their lives. It's not fair!!!! Life is absolutely unbearable there. I've noticed in the older neighborhoods that there are incredible amounts of homes for sale that haven't been on the market in forever. I moved away years ago and now I'm trying to get my parents out. It's like escaping a third world country.I'm not kidding!! It's out right hate in your face where ever you go

What everyone is saying is TRUE!!! - 9/26/2006
We moved here three months ago from out west and we are leaving in three weeks!! Just forget this place it is a LOST CAUSE. Crime is through the roof, the school system is a joke, it's dirty, the people are rude and racist, property is grossly overpriced. Forget it. If you are white then you are the enemy- its really sad. We don't even go into Savannah anymore what's the point? You may have one block of beauty but then you have six blocks of filth, drug dealers and these amazing homes that are run down and trashed by the occupants but have two Lincoln Navigators outside. Cannot wait to leave and as far as I am concerned the earth can open up and take Savannah back...its

"Living in Savannah is like living in a 3rd World - 9/26/2006
Heard this comment on TV this morning about 5 shootings last night. CRIME IS RAMPANT here with the gangs, drug dealers and users, and the small time hoods.
New Police Chief named yesterday. Hope he can do something about the crime. Someone else needs to do something about the dirty streets and the rude people.
It is sad that a city as beautiful as Savannah is, in the historic district and the parks, Tybee Island, etc., has these problems. It is dangerous for tourist to come and walk around to see the sights. After dark you are taking your life into your hands, if you go outside of your door.
This is my hometown and I moved away almost 30 yrs. ago with a job transfer. Moved back last year and have been SHOCKED daily with the crime, nothing to do, dirty streets, etc. No advancement for the schools, culture, etc. It is like living 40 yrs. ago. The smalltown thinking and all the above problems makes me want to move immediately. Many people have

Crime rates - 8/1/2006
Crime rates in Savannah GA are very high. The problem is compounded by the fact that the people commiting the crimes are jailed for short periods of time and released. In many instances, a criminal has a record of being arrested 20 or 30 times. The city needs to completely revamp
