What BestPlaces Users Say about Germantown
Germantown, Maryland is a suburb located about 30 miles northwest of Washington D.C. Known for its diverse population and family-friendly atmosphere, Germantown has become a sought-after place to live. However, before making any decisions about moving to this area, it is important to gather information from those who have firsthand experience. The website BestPlaces.net provides a platform for users to share their thoughts and opinions about living in various cities, and the reviews about Germantown offer valuable insights. Here are excerpts from four different user reviews, ranging from positive to negative.
1. "I have lived in Germantown for over 20 years and have seen it grow and change for the better. It is a great place for families with excellent schools and plenty of parks and recreational activities. The diversity here is also a plus, as it provides a rich cultural experience. Overall, I highly recommend Germantown as a place to live." - KarenS
2. "I moved to Germantown a few years ago and have been disappointed with the lack of community and sense of belonging. While there are some good schools, the overall vibe here is quite dull and it feels like everyone is just going about their own business. It's not a place I see myself staying long-term." - JakeT
3. "Germantown has its pros and cons. On the positive side, there are plenty of shopping and dining options, and it's conveniently located near major highways. However, the traffic can be horrendous and the cost of living is quite high. It's a decent place to live, but I don't know if it's worth the price." - SarahH
4. "I do not recommend living in Germantown. The crime rate is high, and it's not a safe place to raise a family. I have had my car broken into twice and have witnessed several incidents of violence. The cost of living is also ridiculous for what you get. I am currently looking to move out of this area." - JohnD
From these reviews, it is clear that Germantown offers a diverse community and good schools, making it a desirable place for families. However, some may find the lack of community and high cost of living to be drawbacks. It's also important to note the concerns about safety and traffic. Ultimately, it's important for each individual to thoroughly research and consider all factors before making a decision about living in Germantown.

When I first moved to Germantown - 10/2/2013
When I first moved to Germantown, this city was up and coming. It still felt like the country and the air was breathable and not as much traffic. That was in 2010. In 3 years, I can tell you so much has changed. The population growth, the cost of living, traffic build-up and condos are being thrown up everywhere. Do not drink the water from tap. It definitely taste like the smell of toilet water. Their are more foreigners here then the whole DMV area. The percentage of whites and blacks are getting fewer by the month. Don't believe the census bureau. The economy is definitely growing in this little suburban neighborhood but the cost of living is as expensive as NW DC. And if you are coming with a family there is nothing to do here for kids. You have to travel for entertainment. Because all they have is a bunch of restaurants and a movie theatre. No skating ranks, no bowling, etc. High schoolers have nothing but each other to get in trouble. I seen a mass increase in teen smokers in

Montgomery County is not a dog friendly place if you own pets. The dog regulations do not favor the dog or dog owner and one should consider Frederick, Howard or Carroll counties over Montgomery.

Monthly Costs - 7/17/2012
Everything costs more here because of the proximity to Washington D.C. I came from Long Island, NY where it was also expensive. Since I've been here costs go up, but salaries don't keep pace due to the economy right now. It has also become very crowded in this

Best Area - 6/5/2009
The DC metro area is in my opinion is one of the finest places to live. The options for entertainment, education, dining, and outdoor recreation are second to none.
I grew up in Anne Arundel county, specifically Crofton, which is about an hour away from where i currently reside (Germantown). Altough crofton did have alot to do being approximately 1/2 hour away from both baltimore and DC, it didnt really have a strong community feel or much ethnic diviersity whatsoever. Moving to Germantown gave me a taste of what the real DC metro area is like, with a diverse population and ample opportunities for experiencing different cultures that I was not given residing in

I miss Germantown! - 11/1/2008
I recently relocated to the midwest after living in Germantown for five years and I miss it. While it is not an especially lively place to live, it is certainly liveable and convenient to commuting into D.C. The neighborhoods are nicely laid out, the parks are beautiful and there are enough stores and restaurants in the area to make it an enjoyable place to live. I would move back in a
