Salem, Massachusetts is a historic coastal city known for its infamous witch trials in the 17th century. It is located north of Boston and has a population of approximately 44,000 people. The city is a popular tourist destination, with attractions such as the Salem Witch Museum and the House of the Seven Gables. However, it is also a residential area where people live and work. In this context, let's take a look at what some users have to say about living in Salem.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces.net, many people enjoy living in Salem. One user, named Sarah, describes the city as "charming and full of character" with "plenty of interesting shops, restaurants, and events." Another user, named John, praises the "rich history and cultural diversity" of the city. However, there are also some downsides mentioned by users. For example, user Mike states that "traffic can be a nightmare during peak tourist season" and user Jennifer mentions that "housing prices are quite high in comparison to nearby towns." Horrible place for a Family - 3/1/2016
I've been in Salem, Massachusetts for a year now because it brought me up here for my husband's job. Salem may be a great place to visit during Halloween but other than that it's a horrible place to live especially if you have children. The schools here are less than par. Just read the review ratings on Salem public schools. The parking here is atrocious and Salem police do not monitor peoples parking here. You can drive down any two-way street in Salem and sometimes not be able to get down because people are parked all over the streets where they are not allowed to park. They park on sidewalks and on curbs. The roads here are horrible do not plan on bringing a nice car up here because it will be ruined within a year. people here do not even follow road signs they're basically allowed to do whatever they want to do and I've never seen a police pull one over yet. And last but not least The city does not take care of it streets or it's parks or anything it is a trashy city Read More

Love it! - 3/21/2013
My husband and I move to Salem, MA from Long Island NY five years ago and we love it! We kept on visiting for Halloween and we just decided to move here for the hell of it. This town has a real sense of community, awesome town life and a mixed crowd of people. It's located about 1 - 1.5 hours from the White Mountains, 30 min. from Boston. The cost of living is cheeper than NY, so we love it, but it is still above the national average. The only thing I'll say about Salem is that most people work in Boston, which the town does have a commuter rail access to and from, but it's a bit of a trek. Also, I'm not too fond of the community in New England. Salem is almost a whole 'nother world in comparison to the rest of the New England area. Folks up here tend to act too conservative for the likes of New Yorkers. But that's a small cost to live in a great City! Read More
