A great place to live, but you will pay for it.... - 3/29/2008
Minneapolis/St. Paul offers what most bigger, cosmopolitan cities do (ie. great shopping, good restaurants, and plenty from the art scene). It surprises most transplants, however, just how expensive it is to live here.
Minneapolis/St Paul is wonderful place to live, but between the extremely high and growing taxes, as well as the hefty price tag of metro housing, you need to be prepared to pay for the pleasure of living in this livable

2 years in Minneapolis - Amazing - 3/28/2008
I've lived here for 2 years now after graduating from Iowa State in 2006. This city is great!
The pros:
1. The seasons
2. Downtown Minneapolis Nightlife
3. Lakes for every person - young party crowd, private, low traffic
4. 30 minute drive and you are literally in the country
5. Culture
6. Independent music scene
7. Public works - parks, improving highway system, zoos
8. Malls everywhere (if you're into that)
9. St. Paddies in St. Paul is something everyone should experience
Cons:
1. North Minneapolis - Crime is terrible...
2. Housing costs
3. Taxes - Top 5 taxed states
4. Short building season for roads
5. Super liberal... attracts welfare state
6. No Country Bar in downtown

No better place to place - 2/25/2008
Minneapolis /St Paul are great places to work and live. For a major metropolitan area, these cities offer every amenity. No area this size can match what these cities have to offer.
These cities offer a world class university, a dozen smaller colleges/universities that are surpassed by no others. There is a world class zoo, major league sports(baseball, football, basketball, hockey, lacrosse),cultural centers, numerous parks and lakes, an active nightlife, cafes and restaurants of most ethnic groups.
As for crime, yes, it exists; but at no higher a level than any other area of this size (per FBI. I have lived in and around these 2 cities for 40 years and have never been victimized by crime.
I have been to many places in this country and have found no other area to be more friendly.
We raised 2 children, both received a great education in the public school system. It prepared them well for college. In fact, many companies prefer to set up shop here because of

There's a reason it's called Fly Over Country - 1/24/2008
Soon after I arrived here from Arizona in January 2004, I wrote the following in an essay:
'I remember that day in the desert when Minneapolis called to me. It was August. Monsoons had brought rain for six weeks straight, but it was little relief. Humidity was high, my spirits were low and I was looking for a way out. “Minneapolis”, my mind whispered. It was a gentle sound that drifted into my conscious on a stagnant breeze. “Yes”, I thought to myself. There was no question as to why. It just felt right. It really can’t be explained any better than that. I had long been in the practice of denying my intuition its voice for fear of it leading me astray, but this time its quiet persuasion gently impelled me to book a flight to a place I’d never been but intuitively, and magically, knew I was supposed to be.'
Boy was I wrong. In the four years I’ve been here I’ve encountered nothing but short-sighted, narrow-minded, passive-aggressive provincial

Twin Cities area of Minnesota - 1/22/2008
I have spent about 9 years here in the MPLS/St Paul area of Minnesota. I moved here from my home state of Texas(the only place I'd ever lived.) There have been good things and bad things, of course. In my opinion, if you live here, you need quite a bit of money or income in order to establish yourself in a nice place. I attended and graduated from the U of MN here in Minneapolis. The University experience was great! I have lived in three locations: Eagan (SE Suburb), Coon Rapids (NW Suburb), and Uptown (right in the heart of it all.) Eagan was "suburbia" and I didn't like it because it was too Avon-selling-van-driving-look-alike-condo living if that makes sense. Then, I bought a house in Coon Rapids where it was much more quaint. I really liked it there. When I decided to go to school fulltime, I moved into the Uptown area (artsy, diverse, convenient, expensive, walking distance to desireable lakes and the downtown life.) Uptown was fun but I'll be glad to move into something a bit

Yeah, it's cold here - DUH! - 10/18/2007
I'm a recruiter for jobs in the Twin Cities. Whenever I talk to someone who lives outside the upper Midwest, the only thing they know about Minneapolis/St. Paul is that it's cold here (which is true - for a few months out of the year). So, why are you people who clearly relocated here complaining about the weather?! Didn't you know beforehand that you're going to experience a more harsh winter than you're used to?? DUH - Just DUH - is all I can say to you! Also, the cold months are really only December-March. November can also get in the 30-degree range. October and April are mild. May and September are warm. June, July and August are hot. End of story about climate.
I moved here from a smaller city in Minnesota 3 years ago and really didn't know many people here aside from a couple college friends. Yes, it is cliquish here. People are nice on the surface, but it's hard to break into a group. However, YOU have to be willing to put yourself out there. I wasn't necessarily working
