Safe city but not great for 30+ singles - 1/7/2006
I think Minneapolis is a great city for Minnesotan families. It's generally a safe place, "Minnesota nice" people and a lots of great lakes and nature nearby.
But if you are a transplant from another part of the country and are in your early thirties, Minneapolis is a boring place to be at. Minnesotans get married at a young age and it becomes very difficult to meet people at a later point of your life.
To sum it up, it all depends what you are looking for. Minneapolis can be a great place to be, but it can also be a

Nice place to live, but not for 33+ singles - 12/26/2005
I've lived in Minneapolis for nearly ten years and I like the diversity, economic opportunity, cleanliness, and educational opportunities that the city offers. I've had no trouble getting good jobs and finding things to do with my free time. My only warning to someone considering relocating is that Minneapolis is a tough city to meet a potential spouse in if you are over 33 years old. It seems like everyone in Minnesota goes to college with their high school pals, so they don't really meet many new people, and get married by 25 years old. All the attractive men I've met are either gay or married. I've just stopped looking because it is a little

Aaaah, Minneapolis - 12/9/2005
I moved up here a little over 2 years ago after a number of years in the mid-atlantic region. It's really a lovely city during the warm weather months. Access to parks, bike trails, lakes, and all sorts of outdoor activities. An mucho mucho foliage, it's an arborist's dream. There is a prevailing progressive attitude. Plenty of hippie-dippy types & co-ops aplenty. Lots of good art, music, theater. I'd been a fan of the city for years, visiting friends and family, they all seem to love it.
Now comes the HARSH REALITY....it's freezing. I mean FREEZING!!!! Each morning for the last 2 weeks I've awoken to 4 degree highs. No BS. This (winter) lasts an easy 5 months and is illustraited by gray slushy frozen snow everywhere, on the sides of the roads, on the sidewalks. To get around the weather the city installed a Sky-way, a kind of downtown habitrail from building to building. Some people are invigorated by the winter, they go ice fishing, skiing, etc. Personally, come April, I'm

Midwestern yet organic and trendy - 12/4/2005
Minneapolis is a fabulous place to live. Yes it does get cold in the winter but no place is perfect. For the most part it is vegetarian friendly and has it together in terms of organic and healthy living (especially Uptown and South Minneapolis). The people are great and unlike a previous comment the crime isn't that bad. It is a city so of course there is crime but people who live in the city care about and it shows. It's clean and safe and I can't wait to move back! I am very proud of my

A very nice place to live, work, and play - 11/17/2005
Yes, Minneapolis gets cold - get over it. The place has superior access to education, jobs, health care, and business development funding.
You can make life almost anything you want here. For young professionals there are plenty of choice employers with world class reputations; excellent restaurants (if you know where to look); great social activities; sports; and condos everywhere. For families there are great schools, great park systems, and many community funded opportunities for fun.
I've read previous comments about our weather, about the crime, and about it being "boring" here. First, I'm glad it's cold because it keeps the riff raff out - we've got no place for crybabies. Second, I dare you to live here for any amount of time and feel as though it is not one of the safest and cleanest cities in America. And, finally, if you can't find plenty of things to do here you might consider yourself to be the problem. Minneapolis has more theater seat per

Nice, clean, but lacking character - 11/11/2005
Minneapolis is a very nice and clean city. The white collar economy is a large reason it is so liveable with tons of jobs brought by Minneapolis being home to large national franchises, like Best Buy. The city tries very hard to keep up with much larger American cities. I have been here for 4 years while I have been at the University of Minnesota and could see why it has attracted people from other cities. The problem with Minneapolis (and for all purposes the rest of Minnesota) is that it lacks character. It has a kind of boring, empty existence, the two biggest features of the Twin Cities are: the Mall of America and the airport. People not from Minnesota will notice: there actually isn't much to do, they LOVE their university (which they egotistically refer to as The 'U'), the drivers aren't afraid to go 10 under in the left lane (which is good for you if you like to drive slow), the rush hours as bad because the suburbs go on forever (Minneapolis has under 400,000 people, St. Paul

Safe and Clean but pricey and FRIGID - 11/4/2005
First of all, I have no idea where that drug and murder capital comment came from. I had business in Minneapolis for 4 weeks earlier this year and these my impressions. The hiawatha light rail is just spectacular. It takes you from the Mall of america all the way to the warehouse district.
The city is EXTREMELY safe and clean. My personal favorite part is "Little Mogadishu" near the university. Tons of Somalians everywhere! I felt like I was in New York!
I checked out condos and was shocked at the prices. These are Denver/Seattle prices but you have to put up with really sucky weather for those prices. I could see paying Atlanta/Dallas prices for condos and apartments, but nothing more. When I was there it got to 97 degrees and I've also seen it at 30 below. Too many extremes for
