Nice place with crazy drivers - 4/20/2012
I have lived in Biloxi, for roughly 2 years. However I have been to Biloxi on and off for years. Living in Biloxi is nice. There is plenty to do, shows, restaurants, fishing, shopping, casinos, or history. The people here are mostly friendly. It’s nice to get the chance to talk to strangers. It’s beautiful here too. While every place has nice areas and rough areas, I see Biloxi as beautiful. The only downside I would say is the heat, humidity and the drivers. It’s very hot here and stays (what I would consider warm) year round. When it rains here, IT RAINS! It never kind of rains, it’s always a downpour! The driving here is the worst I have ever seen in 35 years of life and driving the entire East coast, as well as the Midwest! This place beats all. It is very, very dangerous. The drivers here are very aggressive! There are a lot folks weaving in and out of traffic, speeding, or tailgating. It’s to the point where it is unsafe and I think about it when I leave my house! You must be so Read More

Great Place to Live! - 5/30/2011
My husband is in the military and we recently moved to Biloxi/Gulfport area from southern California. We've been here only a short time, but I can tell you this: in comparison to California, I would suffer through the humidity and hurricanes just to maintain the quality of life that seems to be ever present here. The people are amazingly friendly and helpful, I actually know my neighbors (what a concept), Cost of living is awesome (we live off the water in a 2b/2ba for $700/m), crime is lower than average there is always something to do. I love the endless recreational options and the many different major destinations within vacation driving distance. So far, I'm quite happy here and do not fear the hurricane threat. I'm used to living on the San Andreas fault where a major earthquake could destroy my home...city...or even state instantly, without warning, and within less than a minutes time. Here, you have days and sometimes weeks to plan ahead before a major storm hits and the only Read More

Where is the money? - 3/24/2011
The school system is ranked so low nationally. My experience with the Biloxi School District explains this. The school board answers to no one and have no desire to listen to parents. The cost of living here is reasonable but wages are ridiculous. The city even has put employees on furlough. Where is the money? Politicians seem to be the good old boy network. The city is filthy, with trash all over and what seems to be a ever growing homeless problem. Needs drastic change. No wonder everyone pitied me having to move Read More

Interesting - 3/9/2011
I have only lived in Biloxi for about 7 months, me and my husband are newly weds and just moved here because he had to come for tech school with the Air Force. It is the first place we have been to and it was very different from Sierra Vista Arizona which is the only place I had ever lived until now. Biloxi is a nice place to live, everyone is very nice. I go to school at the local community college and the education is very low, and I feel that in no way it has prepaired me for a university but it is still and education. The only thing that I could really do with out is the humidity it is insane down here. We are moving to Grand Forks North Dakota next and will be very different and hopefully Read More

BILOXI HOUSING IS HIGH - 2/28/2008
I live in ocean springs and housing on the gulf coast is high.Home
insurance since katrina is very high. For instance my house which had
no damage at 120,000 replacement cost is 2000.00 dollars a year and
the next buyer would have to pay 3000.00 a year.
A co-worker who lives in a house valued at 180,000 or so is paying
6000.00 dolllars a year for home insurance. They had no huricane damage.
There are better places to live than here such as northeast tennessee
where home insurance is much cheaper and property taxes are very low
plus no state income tax.
There is still a lot of debris left over from katrina. The biloxi mayor
just stated its going to take another 7 years to rebuild.

After Katrina - 9/25/2007
The aftermath of Katrina is getting further away in the rearview mirror. Biloxi's casinos are thriving. Homes are being rebuilt. Schools have been rebuilt or were undamaged. Unemployment rate is 6.4% in Harrison County. Life goes on. The oak trees are beginning to look fuller and greener. People are not focused on Katrina as they are looking to the future. We have a lot of rebuilding to do but Rome wasn't built in a day. Besides there are not enough contractors to get the job Read More

Biloxi - 5/6/2007
What are your first thoughts when hear you Biloxi? It's still true, probably even worse. Katrina killed a city that was tolerable. Now, rebuilding is slow, crime is raising and education is on the back burner. But hopefully all of the Katrina funds can fix this place. Pre-Katrina I liked it but would not live here permanently. Permanent residents are resistant to visitors definitely a good ol' boy Read More
