City that never sleeps - 2/9/2009
Las Vegas is a great city for young singles or couples on the go. There is always something to do in Vegas at any hour. The bars and clubs typically do not close until the sun comes up, and many local bars are open 24 hours. You can also eat any time of day, it is never to late to get a good meal in Vegas. Unparalleled night life exists here. Also great golf at reasonable prices (for locals), and golfing 12 months a year. Vegas can be a wonderful city if you enjoy nightlife and Read More

Vegas Life - 2/2/2009
Been in town for nearly 39 years and have seen many, many changes. One of the most problematic has been the increase in crime over the years. As the population boomed from 1990 to 2007, the crime increased and there is a significant gang presence in areas of the city. Certain areas are beautiful and masterplanned (e.g., Summerlin), but many older areas in the north and northeast sections of the city are dangerous.

The other problem area is infrastructure. The population far outstrips the roadways and there is constant expansion of major arterials which has been going on for years and will proceed into the foreseeable future.

Finally, there are problems with governmental priorities. We are one of the lowest-rated states in terms of education performance. There are currently budget cuts threatened which will gut the university system and push many young teachers over the edge into a non-subsistence wage. There is concurrently a plan proposed to build a Read More

I hate Las Vegas! - 11/22/2008
When I moved to Las Vegas in 1995 I really liked it a lot. Traffic was not a big deal, weather was great, lots of great restaurants, etc. Since the big housing boom 4 years ago, this city has become a miserable place to live. The massive influx of people and the kind of people that relocoated here have overshadowed any good about Las Vegas. People are purposefully antagonistic on the road. People speed up so as to purposefully not let you over. You routinely get flipped off and people like to purposefully come right up on your rear bumper and then violently swerve into another lane. You might think it is my driving that causes these things...I can assure you it is not. It is the mentality of this town, "every man for himself at the expense of everyone else." I feel extremely unsafe driving around town with my child. Last night my husband and I had our house broken into. So now I feel unsafe coming home every night. If I could move out of Las Vegas tomorrow I would. We will definitely Read More

Economic downturn - 11/22/2008
The economy in Las Vegas has been primarily dependent on tourism, specifically gaming and entertainment. As a result, Las Vegas has become a favorite for large conventions, which also bring quite a bit of economic stimulus. Until recently, the Southern Nevada area was a perrenial front-runner among the nations fastest growing cities, but since the housing crisis and this economic downturn, contstruction and growth have both slowed considerably. As a result, businesses and municiple governments are facing severe budget cuts, including hiring freezes and Read More

Las Vegas/Henderson - 11/20/2008
The world slows down but the Las Vegas valley continues to grow. Slower now than other times, but it continues to grow.

Entertainment 24 hours a day. Golf and outdoor activities 12 months a year. If you want to get away from the lights, try our mountains with snow and skiing in the winter, and cool pine sented air in the summer; or enjoy the largest man made lake in the United States with great recreational areas and world class fresh water fishing.

There are few places in the world with the diversity that explodes here from job opertunities and affordable housing for the young, to retirement communities and activities for the people that have already been there. And don't forget about the legendary buffets where many times you can eat cheaper out than it costs to cook at home.

All this and our International airport that can get you anywhere else you might like to visit, we have it all, and we're willing to share.
