We call it progress - 6/14/2023
There is so much new blood here and it's young. With the opening of Arby's, Chipotle, and maybe Dutch Brothers it's starting to feel a lot bigger than it used to. There are now with 3 winery's, a mead and cider, and rum distilleries, we can see why so many are visiting from Death Valley and the Tecopa Hot Spring for longer than just a day to get supplies. The Spring Mountain race track has brought money to the area but the real buzz I think is all the 30-somethings that have snuck in. There are a lot of exciting things happening and we are in anticipation of what else is to come. Read More

Think Before a Move - 8/16/2022
We moved to Pahrump about 7 years ago after our home in Las Vegas sold to the first couple looking at it, and we couldn't find a home there that we liked in our price range. What a mistake in my eyes! There is only a Walmart for shopping except small stores, 99¢stores, and 2 grocery stores!!! Restaurants are OK, some in the local casinos, most others fast food or individually owned. The one good one that is at a winery changed and is no longer so since the winery was sold a couple years ago.
I don't want to to sound like a whiner because I really have tried to like this community. But we have to drive to Las Vegas for ALL our doctors because we are retired, on Medicare with a secondary insurance, not an HMO. Both my husband and myself see 3+ specialists in addition to our internist, some who just aren't available in Pahrump. If I want to "really" shop, I either drive to Vegas or do it online.
So if you are looking for good (or great) shopping, and restaurants, plus Read More

Pahrump has changed and it's grown - 2/5/2021
Someone needs to update this information. Things have changed. The Town of Pahrump is making changes. No one wants negative comments about where they live, and the fact is there is so much good about living in Pahrump that it's a shame that a few bad mouthers who complain about other things in life have to bring that negativity to a National Website as if it's the truth stigmatizing and ruining our good name of Pahrump. Wikipedia has better information to go by than complainers here.
I've lived here since April 2016. Lived in Vegas where crime grew and we were robbed of practically everything the thieves could carry out of our house in a gated community. Calling 911 there sometimes caused a 20 minute wait due to the number of calls they get there. We loved living in LV for all it offered, but the crime was enough. The drugs there were too much. Homelessness grew as it does in major cities. So we moved away, yet close enough that my husband could still drive in to work.Read More

Great place...maybe? - 2/8/2020
I lived Pahrump and served its Sheriff’s office for a very long time. When I moved there from California there was nothing. The only paved roads was 160 and 372. One light and no grocery store the closest one was in Las Vegas, grab ice and a big cooler for the monthly grocery’s. When McDonald’s opened wow! We hit big time! When I left there was quiet a bit of growth. Walmart Smith’s, Albertsons? And a few casinos. Home depo.
The schools and staff were pretty top of their game many of whom were recruited from North Dakota and Minnesota in the late 90’s early 2000.

There is so much to see in the wild there. Mt. Charleston has mule deer Huge Elk, wild horses, burros, sheep cut throat trout stocked in streams that can be hard to find to just to name a few. You can explore ash meadows. Devils hole, numerous hot springs, and just outside town into California I believe I remember prehistoric remains uncovered and on display. The chukar and quail are plentiful as Read More

Don't do it! - 12/26/2019
If all you want is a cheap place to exist, Pahrump might be worth considering. But be warned. Its 60% decrepit trailers ("mobile homes ") and most occupants don't have any motivation to even make them look decent. Realtor tours WON'T show you all the ghetto areas. Shopping? Walmart is the only game in town. They've been promising a movie theater for years, and the latest cancel just happened last month. Bottom line is.....this place is bottom of the barrel Read More

Do NOT moveto Pahrump Nv! - 12/1/2019
Been here 7 yrs from Washington. Ive never seen so many sick people. Something is going on here. I drive medical patients and they say same thing. Werent sick till came here. My dad ended up with brain cancer. Both my dogs sick . ones got cancer im fighting now. They wont build town up so we have around 55,000 people to one small strip in town. Actual town 2 miles long with businesses. Everyones moving here. Im trying to get out. The dust is horrible and has spores under ground and if it hits u right u end up with Valley Fever that supposedly u can never get rid of. Tons of coyotes that are eating everyones small dogs. Hwy 160 is called the widow maker. Hundreds of accident daily. I lived right by it. Ambulance would run down 3 times a day everyday. Live PD is here making a Mockery of our town. The police dept are not here to serve and protect they go on property and shoot and kill your dog if it comes barking around corner. Trust me..u do not wana move here. Housesare a bit cheaper Read More

Great place to retire - 8/10/2019
I don't believe most of the negative reviews here, they are being written by people who don't want others to discover this hidden jewel. I retired here in 2017 and couldn't be happier. There's great restaurants and friendly people. Climate in the winter is very nice and cost of living is low. The people are very friendly Read More

Too isolated for me - 3/26/2019
Moved to Pahrump 5 years ago from Oregon. I wanted to move to Las Vegas but my husband talked me into moving to Pahrump. I wanted the shopping and activities and restaurants of the city. He wanted small town. I used to live in Las Vegas and loved it. I can drive in Las Vegas on surface streets and get to stores. I have panic disorder where I cannot drive on freeways or fast roads by myself. My husband promised he would take me to Las Vegas Any Time I wanted. After 5 years we haven't gone there yet except to go to my doctor. There are no specialists in Pahrump, so I need to go to Las Vegas for doctors. I have searched for 5 years for transportation to the city for shopping and activities. There is none. I am totally isolated here. I would get a divorce, but we're retired and I only receive $500 per month social security so need both incomes to survive. I was lied to when we moved here and regret it every single day. I have tried to find friends for activities, but no Read More

DON'T MOVE TO PAHRUMP NEVADA - 3/17/2019
I've lived in Pahrump since 2012 and want to move back to Oregon. This place sucks big time. The traffic here is just as bad as Vegas and California. The teenagers here are RUDE as hell. They are so rude that my sister and broth-in law moved way from Pahrump. When my nephew was about 3 or 4 yrs old, my sister and our mother took my nephew to one of the parks to play on the equipment and my nephew wanted to play on the slide but there were some teenagers sitting on it. My nephew asked the teenagers very nicely to move but they ignored him. Our mother and my sister then both nicely asked the teenagers to move so my nephew could play on the slide, but the teenagers ignored them also. The teenagers don't give a rats ass about anyone but themselves. And this is because their parents are millennial parents. What I mean by that is, that the parents let their kids do what ever they want and the parents don't do a thing to stop them.
Mom and I are trying to get out of this hell Read More

Pahrump named one of worst small cities to live in - 2/28/2019
Pahrump came in 1,197th out of 1,268 in a ranking of the best and worst small cities in America. Huge meth problem, water running out, wells going dry and drugs are taking over. Just watch Live PD, we ARE Nye County, that is where most of the crime takes place.. Pahrump.

Zero growth due to the water issue, no new stores or shops, just run down trailers and a human graveyard of dead dreams

Pahrump truly is where dreams come to die. Read More
