What BestPlaces Users Say about Albuquerque

Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico and is known for its beautiful desert landscape, rich Native American and Hispanic culture, and vibrant arts scene. It has a population of over 560,000 people and is home to many popular tourist attractions, such as the Sandia Peak Tramway and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

Albuquerque is a popular city for people looking to relocate, but what do actual residents have to say about living there? According to many user reviews on BestPlaces.net, it seems that opinions are mixed. Overall, many residents appreciate the diverse culture, warm climate, and outdoor activities available in Albuquerque. However, there are also some concerns expressed about crime rates, traffic, and job opportunities.

One user, named Sarah, says, "I've lived in Albuquerque my whole life and I love it. The weather is great and there is always something new to explore. The food is amazing and the people are friendly." This sentiment is echoed by another user named Maria, who states, "I moved to Albuquerque for college and ended up staying. I love the city's blend of cultures and the fact that there's always something to do, whether it's hiking, checking out a new restaurant, or attending a cultural event." These reviews highlight the positive aspects of living in Albuquerque, such as the weather, diverse culture, and abundance of activities.

However, not all reviews are as glowing. One user, Michael, expresses concerns about the city's crime rates, saying, "I moved to Albuquerque for work and I'm not a fan. The crime rates are high and I don't feel safe walking around at night. I also struggle to find job opportunities in my field." Another user, named David, also touches on the issue of crime, stating, "There are some great things about Albuquerque, but the crime rates are concerning. I wouldn't recommend living here to families with young children." These reviews bring up valid points about safety and job opportunities in the city, which may be important factors for those considering a move to Albuquerque.

In summary, user reviews about living in Albuquerque are diverse, with some praising the city's culture and outdoor activities, while others express concerns about crime rates and job opportunities. Ultimately, it is important for individuals to consider their own priorities and conduct thorough research before deciding if Albuquerque is the right place for them to call home.

The Duke City Rocks - 7/9/2009
I have lived all over the country (Atlanta GA, San Antonio TX, Los Angeles CA, Danbury CT, St. Louis MO, & Boise ID) and have enjoyed them all. Albuquerque by far has the best climate in that there are four seasons but all are mild. Summer highs are around 96, and winter lows (daytime) in the 40's. Spring and fall are both long enough to enjoy and let's not forget CHILE!! Red or Green, this stuff is awesome. The tri-cultural aspect of the state makes for an excellent mix of people and races and there is no segregation. Everyone seems to get along well. Even gay people and interracial couples find it comfortable here!
The mountains, the high desert cool evenings, the sunsets, the people, the arts, all add up to astonishing!
You will hear about crime being an issue, but truly the homocides are isolated to gang activity in pockets of the city, and/or domestic stuff. I have never had an issue with crime personally, nor do I know of anyone that has. Like any city, there is bad Read More

Crime in Albuquerque - 6/22/2009
I've visited other similarly big cities and, in my opinion, Albuq.'s got some serious issues. I certainly wouldn't raise a family there and even without children I would think twice before I moved there.

I lived in Abq. from 1970 to 1995. My family moved from Texas to Alb. and I attended public schools - after my experiences I decided that I would never send my children to an Albuq. public school (I had attended schools in Texas, and had some good experiences to compare). I lived in nice neighborhoods in Albuq: the Ridgecrest area (S.E.), the Northeast area (Tramway/Menaul; Carlisle/Washington; Menaul/Wyoming) and the Northwest area on a 1/2 acre (between 4th and Rio Grande/ N. of Montano). When my children were pre-teen we chose to move out of the state b/c of the crime/gang related problems.

These were incidents that promoted out decision to leave:

Albuquerque's moderate climate - 5/26/2009
I think Albuquerque has wonderful weather! It has a moderate climate. Albuquerque has four seasons, however, does not get too cold in the winter, nor too hot in the summer. For example, in the winter, the temp may go down to the 30's. If it snows, it does not last when the sun comes out. In the summer, the temp reaches close to 100 on some days, but there is hardly any humidity. The weather is one of my favorite things about Albuquerque, Read More

Few activities for children - 4/3/2009
Albuquerque is on the Forbes list for a great place to live. Wouldn't say that it has much in opportunity for recreational activities for children. It has a zoo and and a museum but no hands on activities for this town. Has a YMCA program with very limited activities compared with other Read More

Quality of life--zero - 2/4/2009
Albuquerque has no quality of life. If you mention to me the weather and the mountains, I will puke, I came from Cali and there are mountains there too and great weather, so no big deal. The vibe of this place is negative and usually it seems that people are more miserable here.
I totally agree with the previous comments on how people are very close and are not open to others. Friendly, I do not think so. Believe me, I have never encountered more insecure women in my life than here.
I would not say that Albuquerque has good places to live. There are small pockets of good neighborhoods and then the next street is a totally different story. You have to be willing to live besides 'bad elements' because there are usually on the next block. That to me is not good living. I usually feel claustrophobic.
Pay is disappointing. Oh, there is work but the pay is awful.
I have lived here for three years and I will certainly say this place is really not my home.Read More

Thinking about moving to Seattle - 10/23/2008
Myself and boyfriend who are a racially mixed couple, have been planning on moving to Seattle for quite some time...Here are our issues and concerns:
How are bi-racial couples looked at within the community and treated?
One of us would be going to Seattle with a BA degree while the other has only had some college, what are the chances of finding good jobs to be successful in the Seattle area.
Understood that the cost of living is high and am assuming the pay should compensate for high cost of Read More
