Once a nice place - 9/8/2009
I grew up and attended school in Fulton from 1962 to late 1970's.
It was a great place to live but the businesses eventually died off and unemployment became high. In mid-70's Miller Brewery provided many with an excellent salary but most of their employees lived elsewheres not in Fulton. The City and School budgets saw deficits, State and Federal Aid and other fundings declined.
This had an impact on Fulton's future and sustaining its population throughout the 1980's to present (2009) it has become a poor and poverish community in Oswego County. It's sad that Fulton has endured harsh times with the departure of Nestles. Once a nice place to live is now a nightmare.
I didn't raise my family there because Fulton provided little in supporting family life. The people maybe wonderful but there isn't anything left today. If you like snow and water this is a great area to live. The cost of living is low. You are very close to Lake Ontario, The Fingerlakes and the Erie Barge canal.
Located in Central New York, this is a small town on the decline financially.
It has lost a great deal of businesses in the past decade, which is sad.
