What BestPlaces Users Say about Cary

Cary, North Carolina is a popular city known for its high quality of life, top-rated schools, and strong economy. With a population of over 170,000, it is a diverse and rapidly growing community. Many people are drawn to Cary for its favorable climate, low crime rates, and abundance of job opportunities. However, as with any place, there are both positive and negative aspects to living in Cary. To gain a better understanding of what it's like to call Cary home, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

One user, named Samantha, raves about the family-friendly atmosphere in Cary, saying "Cary is a great place to raise a family. There are so many parks and activities for kids, and the schools are top notch." She goes on to mention the abundance of family-friendly events and the overall sense of community in the city.

On the other hand, a user named John shares his dissatisfaction with the cost of living in Cary, stating "Housing costs are high and continue to rise. It's getting harder and harder for young families to afford to live here." This sentiment is echoed by many other reviewers who mention the high cost of housing and other expenses in Cary.

Another user, Maria, praises the city for its job opportunities, saying "Cary has a booming economy and there are plenty of job opportunities in a variety of industries." She also notes the city's proximity to the Research Triangle Park, a major hub for technology and research companies.

However, not everyone is impressed with the job market in Cary. A reviewer named David expresses frustration with the lack of diversity in job options, saying "The job market is limited to primarily tech and healthcare. It's difficult for those in other industries to find employment here."

Overall, it seems that the majority of users have positive experiences living in Cary, with its strong economy, family-friendly environment, and excellent schools being major draws. However, the high cost of living and limited job options in certain industries are valid concerns for those considering a move to this city.

Raliegh/Cary, NC - Best Places to Live - 1/29/2013
In response to Mercedes - posting of 10/16/12.

Having been raised and lived in the northeast; living in Phoenix, Arizona, San Diego, CA, Dallas, TX and the Washington, DC metroplex areas, I would venture say, I can speak with an open mind with what you are saying. I do not find Raleigh to be lazy nor arrogant or rude. The area as well is a melting pot of various cultures and backgrounds. It is unfortunate how we view people and cultures. I am also well travelled, I know racism when I see, whether undercover or otherwise. I will state, this area is a more laidback than New York City. I was relocated here by my company, but have family all long the east coast to include North Carolina. We all have our own opinions, I wish you will in finding that next place to reside that fits your needs. I am happy to say, I have not experience any of the items you reference. I enjoy being in this Read More

Raleigh is a terrible place to live - 10/16/2012
We got stuck here a few years ago due to a job promotion. The environment is so strange. I lived almost everywhere and I am well travelled. Raleigh, Durham, cary area culture is a very lazy, don't want to help, arrogant and rude environement and I come form NY city. At least they are fast and efficient. They are so slow mentally and physically here and just miserable people here. Attitude and know it all issues for everything. There is also a lot of racism here although it is not obvious you can see it. I feel like I have been pushed back to the 1920's here as far as culture, ignorance etc. I suggest you look someone where else. I know we have been top on the where to move list but I don't think they take the culture and people into consideration. Can't wait to Read More

COST OF LIVING - 4/21/2012
Moved here from CA 2 years ago. and I thought CA was expensive. I received a pay reduction of 15% when I got to Cary becuase of the so-called cost of living diference. but what they dont' factor in is that food, and necessities are far more expensive in NC than CA. the only thing different here is the housing market and not everyone owns a house. The cost of living here is 6.5% above the national average. How does that account for a cost of living adjustment in the negative.
The labor and rent laws are rediculous. Landlords and property management companies can raise your rent to whatever. The sky is the limint. Mine was just raised 15%. Something is serously wrong with this picture.
As far as the labor laws go...absolutely ridiculous and unfair. Landscape companies can hire you as a salaried employee so when you work overtime you get HALF time and less the more hours you work which amounts to less than minimum wage most of the time. Just another law here in NC for Read More

Just my honest opinion..... - 8/27/2011
I have read comments regarding how great Cary and Raleigh are; however, I disagree tremendously. Cary is very dull and the area is going down hill fast. The education is not great at all compared to other states. Wake County has a lot to improve on. Had I known that the county eliminated textbooks in the school budget, I would have not moved here. How can a student learn without a textbook to refer to one when needed? How can a Teacher effectively develop curriculum without a textbook? My child has not adapted to the block schedule either. Also, identity crime is very high in this area and yes, the housing may be affordable, but the food is priced way too high. What good is it to have a beautiful home and you are starved from eating mac n cheese all the time? I am not sure if many people know this, but NC is no. 9 with Seniors going hungry everyday-very sad! In general, many people come south to retire or to improve their quality of life, but even the elderly can't retire and relax Read More

Great place to live and work! - 1/8/2011
Cary has parks and walking trails and neighborhoods of every kind. We are conveniently located to Raleigh and RTP, and recent road projects have made commuting easier. Cary is well-kept and clean, very safe, and there are a lot of green and open spaces. There are many school choices, from local schools to magnet schools through Wake County. Overall, this is a great place to live, work and play. Read More

Cary- nice - 1/4/2010
I have only been in Cary, NC a short time, but it is a nice town with lots of new shopping centers. You are restricted without cultural things to do being outside of a small city though compared to New York, Philadlephia, or other large city. I am moving again to be outside of a larger city with the possiblities of more to do Read More
