What BestPlaces Users Say about Charlotte
Background Information:
Charlotte, North Carolina is a bustling city known for its booming economy and southern charm. With a growing population of over 870,000 people, it has become a popular place to live for many individuals and families. However, like any city, it has its pros and cons. Here's what some users have to say about living in Charlotte.
Overall, the majority of user reviews on BestPlaces.net speak highly of living in Charlotte. Many reviewers mention the city's friendly atmosphere and numerous job opportunities. SarahD stated, "Charlotte is a great city to live in. The people are friendly and the job market is thriving." Similarly, JohnK shared, "I moved to Charlotte for work and I have not regretted it. In terms of cost of living, some users have mixed opinions. While some, like NancyB, appreciate the affordable housing and low taxes, others have found the price of living to be high. As reviewer TimS put it, "Charlotte has a lot going for it, but the cost of living can be a bit steep. It's important to budget wisely and find a good paying job if you want to make it work here."
One aspect that received a lot of attention in the reviews is the weather in Charlotte. Some commenters, like MaryL, love the mild winters and hot summers, saying "I don't mind the heat as long as I have air conditioning." However, others have a different opinion, such as JakeM who wrote, "The summers here are brutal and the winters can be unpredictable. It's something to keep in mind before moving here."

Great City with it ups and downs - 7/12/2006
I have been to Charlotte several times, and plan to move there in the near future after i graduate from college. As it stands right now, there is not much to do in uptown, and apparently there isnt anything good to say about the education system (although i think that refers to K-12, im not sure about UNC-Charlotte). I have read a couple of comments concerning the crime rate there, and i have to say that, although one should always be aware of crime and potential danger around them, it might me a bit exaggerated. If one always listens to the evening news, your bound to here about anything and everything negative, because the news is a business out to grab ratings. Ignore the news, and look for some kind of reliable statistic concerning the crime before you allow that to influence your decision. Charlotte is growing, especially around uptown, and you can find all kinds of restaurants all throughout the city and suburbs. The airport is easily accessable, homes are reasonably affordable

Charlotte vs Atlanta - 7/6/2006
I am looking to move from Los Angeles in order to afford a home in the near future and also to be closer to my parents in S.C. Do you think it would be better for me to move to Charlotte or Atlanta? I would like to hear from people that have lived in both cities or have spent significant time in both cities. I understand that both cities have high crime and a poor education system, but if I had to choose one of the two, which one would be a better choice? By the way, my wife and I are Asian's and in our late 20s.
Thank you in advance for

After visiting plan on relocating to Charlotte ver - 7/6/2006
I have recently visited Charlotte over the 4th of July holiday weekend and had a lovely time! My fiancé and I decided to visit the area after thinking of relocating there for the past few months and we also visited a cousin who just moved there himself to the Ballantyne area of Charlotte. Charlotte is a beautiful area. It was hot and a little humid but not as bad as Virginia Beach. I am looking for a calm area with parks and fishing etc I have that here but I would like to move to Charlotte which seems to have everything Virginia Beach has but things are calm there! During the holiday weekend visiting Charlotte was pleasant it was not as much traffic as in my area especially during the 4th of July Holiday weekend! We are looking into renting for a year and then buying a house the following year once we learn the area. We would like to move sometime this fall either September or October! So right now we need as much info on relocating to the area. If anyone has any tips as far as what

Considering a move to Charlotte - 7/4/2006
We live in AZ right now and I am tired of the rocks and cactus. We are looking at Charlotte because
we have heard many comments about the "easy going" way of life there. Here in AZ nothing is easy.
The climate is harsh in the summer and the monsoon season is treacherous. Crime has risen in the Phoenix area and the new homes are priced beyond the average person's reach. As an example, our house cost 100,000.00 in 2001 and the value has more than trippled since then. We are looking for something more reasonable. Any suggestions or comments about Charlotte will be greatly appreciated. You can email

Seeking an excellent high school and basketball pr - 7/2/2006
Hello,
My family has decided to relocate to Charlotte in August 2006. We are looking for a community that will offer some diversity since we are African American , but will offer affordable housing under 130K range. More importantly one of my children has some learning disabilities and needs a smaller school enviroment. I would like to consider the new Ardey Kell high school, but the area homes and apartments are too expensive. Also in reading some of the comments about the problems in the CMS system I am not sure if I want go in that direction. I have heard Fort mIlls, Concord, Hustsville and Mint Hills are possible places to consider buying or renting.
I would like to heard from some one who can help point us in the right direction. I might consider a private or catholic school, but would prefer to go public due to better resources for my high schooler. They are capable just needs extra help to succeed.
Thanks,
Moving from

Charlotte nice city for young professionals... sti - 7/1/2006
A friend posted a comment on this website using my old sign-in and I've received several questions/comments via email that I haven't had time to reply to so I wanted to give more info here about what I dislike/like about Charlotte from my perspective as a 30-something, African American female:
1. Things to do? While Charlotte IS a little slower than some larger cities, there is plenty to do you... you just have to look harder. Grood resources are Goodpeoples.com (the Entertainment section) and PrideMagazine.net Both are Charlotte publications that will give you a good feel for what is going on in the Black community and what there is to do. One of the things I don't like is that the uptown area lacks diversity... mostly there are just bars and all of them seem the same. I think the Charlotte planning committe likes things this way and limits the type of venues that make a home in the uptown area.
2. Jobs: Several people have asked me about the Charlotte

Housing Advice - 6/29/2006
I am moving next month to the Charlotte area and have just started looking at homes. I have read the posted comments regarding the school system and I am concerned. I want to move to the best school district, however, would like to avoid an hour commute into downtown. If you were looking for good schools, family community, 30 to 40 minute commute, where would you suggest?

Crime, crime, and more crime!!! - 6/29/2006
Like another poster, I relocated to Charlotte from N.O after Katrina. I had actually been looking at Charlotte way before the storm hit. I'd visted Charlotte about 6 years ago and really liked what I saw. I'd also read all kinds of glowing reviews about quality of life, and costs of living here in Charlotte. I should have thought about the old adage "You get what you pay for"
My husband wanted to go to Denver and we had even even signed a lease hold on a townhouse there, but I convinced my him that Charlotte it was "the" place for us and our two daughters to be. I can't believe I was so wrong. I thought crime in N.O was bad, well this place has The Big Easy beat by a country mile! Crime is not only everywhere, it's extremely random in nature. No community is immune. Watching the nightly news is a frightening experience, yet you can't turn away for being amazed at all that's going on. Daily! Rapings, assaults, robberies, and HOME INVASIONS and murders are a daily
