cycling heaven, but locals quite xenophobic - 2/19/2019
native east coast-er; i lived in northern ky for 8 years up to '13, and found the locals quite xenophobic in nature. "what high school did you go to?" made me chuckle. boy could you hear crickets when i replied that i grew up in southeastern pa. i learned quickly that all who ask that (nearly all locals) have never lived outside of the tri-state. ha! this is state #14 i've lived in, so i'm a de facto expert on rating these things. i moved to beavercreek to enjoy the bike trails that i fell in love with in my n. ky days, when i trekked up here on weekends, bike in the back of my pickup.

although i'm enjoying cycling heaven, i am still shaking my head @the anti-social nature of the midwest. interestingly though, is that some locals i've met in other areas of dayton metro condemn beavercreek as being even anti-social to them! well, it sure is quiet here though, and i'm fortunate enough to work within a 5 minute walk from my home. don't anticipate making any Read More

Sort of slummy and culture dictated by WPAFB - 6/7/2017
Essentially, I found this town rather slummy for what's supposedly and upper middle class suburb. The culture here too is dictated by the base since nearly everyone works there.

I spent four and a half miserable years here.

Essentially, your only employment opportunities are in healthcare or at the base.

I worked at the base; they were the most provincial and uncouth people I ever worked with. It was like a cult or being on another planet. Indeed, the people were weird. A mob psychology abounded there. They didn't want humans there but instead yes men and robots. This is also the only job I've ever worked at where management will actively hold you back without actually knowing you and solely based on whether or not they liked your smell when you first walked in the door. Indeed, they will badmouth you if called for a job reference. Active judgment abounds, and based on the looks of most of them they didn't have any room to judge anybody.Read More

Comfortable suburban and country living - 7/22/2013
I have lived in Beavercreek for several years, and the first thing that comes to mind is the fairly new developments and neighborhoods. Beavercreek is mostly a quiet and family-style living area with smooth roads, well-maintained parks, and a huge soccer complex that is quite popular with many families. The parents are more involved in their children's education, but the school is only above-average or somewhat decent. The schools keep asking for millions on levies every year, but the system doesn't seem efficient and organized. If your children take honors/AP classes, they will definitely reap the benefits because they will be the most college-prepared if they perform well. The extracurricular activities and sports are well-supported and organized. If you have children who attend the public schools, just know that everything will not run smoothly in the departments due to an obvious lack of organization and rampant favoritism. Also, people in general tend to be friendly and Read More

Area Crime - 9/26/2011
Crime is always on the uprise once the college students return or enroll. Ohio does have one of the lowest employment ratings in the country; therefore, some people resort to crime to handle their needs. Crime seems to be more rampant in the adjoining and farther areas of the regional area, but is never the less Read More

Leave Beavercreek NOW, unless you work at the BASE - 6/23/2010
Just a horrible place, taxes are crazy high, crime is all over the place. The crime rate has jumped in the past few years.

Why? Because the local Government okays any and all "new" apartments, renters pay NO taxes and their is no city income tax.

So guess what ? Renters flock here to put their children in Beavercreek schools at a cost to the homeowners.

Don't even get me started on the Keystone Cop force, they have NO idea the "new" type of crime they are up against.

If you do not work at the BASE and I am criticizing the civilian workers there ( they are on a "superior UNION planet of their own") NOT the military .

SELL, take a loss just get out now Read More

Random - 11/27/2008
The weather here is very sporadic and unpredictable. One day it will be 60 degrees [Fahrenheit], then it will freeze at night, rain the next morning and by the following night it will be 20 degrees and snowing... in April!

... Very hard to adjust to!

Taxes, levies and bonds - 6/21/2008
Beavercreek may have a reputation as a decent city, but every time you turn around there's either a new levy or bond, renewal levy, emergency levy, or rumblings of instituting a city income tax. The city says they need the extra money because of expansion, which may be true since you always read of building projects being approved and never read of one being turned down. Except that more houses/businesses should increase city revenue through additional taxes, which the city doesn't acknowledge. So you'll pass a police, fire or roads levy to theoretically pay for service in a new neighborhood (though the new neighborhood is also bringing in additional taxes) and the next election cycle they ask for an increase (and get it). The schools already have at least one levy going and they're trying to push a 28-year bond issue (it failed twice but we'll see it again). The schools have also promised that, if/when the bond passes, there will be another levy on top of the bond and existing Read More

Most unfriendly people - 4/14/2007
We've moved around the country as a result of position relocations for my husbands career. Beavercreek, Ohio is the worst! Try smiling at a stranger and see what you get- either a miserable frown or nothing at all. People are so self-absorbed in meaningless busy-ness, they have no time for strangers to become friends. The church is no better. Like automatrons, they say "Peace be with you", but the looks on their faces don't back up the sentiment and just forget anyone approaching you, doesn't happen.

Nice place to live -- but very conservative! - 12/27/2006
I've lived in Beavercreek since 1970 and have found it a pleasant mix of country, suburb, business, and shopping. Property taxes are high, sales taxes are middling, and cost of living is fairly low compared to other parts of the country. We have no income tax right now, but there are discussions on instituting one to ease some of the tax burden that property owners shoulder. Housing in Beavercreek is a little higher than most (with a couple of exceptions) other suburbs in the Dayton OH area (average in the upper 100s). Schools are excellent. Biggest drawback to this area is that if you are not a religious conservative, you are VERY much in the minority. Schools, bookstores, libraries, etc. in this area reflect this on many Read More
