Save yourself time and money and don't live here - 8/18/2021
If I could give this place less than a star I would. When we moved down here from Pennsylvania we expected southern hospitality. This town is so far from that its ridiculous. We lived off base at first where I was living across from drug dealers and it was VERY obvious. I witnessed several handoffs from my own window and there was a fight at least twice a week. This town is full of crime. When we moved down here there were 15 unsolved MURDERS by now I'm sure it's much higher as I see murders weekly if not more. The businesses here SUCK. No one knows how to do their job properly. You go to a fast food restaurant and something is guaranteed to be wrong with your order. The town is ugly. We bought our car just last year and the bottom front part of our car is hanging off that's how poorly the roads and driveways are taken care of. And lastly people don't know how to drive. Another thing that happens weekly if not daily are car accidents. We've gotten into several close calls ourselves. Read More

Look up 20 best things to do and you'll LOL. - 7/4/2021
It's a military town with nothing to offer. People will say cheap gas, cheap property, decent climate and museums. Yes this is all true of Lawton Oklahoma, BUT that's because of the low demand of people wanting to live here. Imagine driving through a town in the middle nowhere and you get that feeling of going back in time by 20yrs. That's Lawton. The only modern structures going for them are the few big chain restaurants and Native American Casinos. Look up 20 best things to do in Lawton, Oklahoma and that alone will make you think twice of heading that way. Read More

Stay away. Just. Stay. Away. - 6/17/2021
The only good thing about Lawton is that it's close to a nice wildlife refuge, which has great hiking, and some buffalo. Lawton tricked U.S. businesses into coming into the area about 10 years ago when it annexed the population of the adjoining Army base, Ft. Sill, onto its population, making it look like an enormous number of people were moving here. They weren't. But the businesses were successfully duped into coming. Now most of them are starting to cut their losses and leave. Pretty soon, Lawton will be 'that place where there used to be a lot of businesses.' The common complaint here is that there's really nothing to do. It's a horribly boring place, the crime here is terrible, the cops are terrible, and city council is terrible, the neighborhoods are terrible, and for God's sake, the public schools are terrible. When the city had trouble getting doctors to move here, the main problem was how ugly the town is. So they plotted a course of roads to "show people Lawton." On those Read More

Lawton- Great Place to Live - 8/22/2020
Lawton is one of the best places to live for the following reasons: The cost of living is much cheaper than in most parts of the country. Rent and gas is cheap. Home prices are reasonable. The temperature year around is better than in most parts of the country. Winters are mild and summers are not near as hot as Phoenix and Las Vegas. Within a short distance there are beautiful mountains and lakes. The area has casinos, malls, golf courses, fine restaurants, bars, clubs, universities, hospitals, big beautiful parks, and even a museum. There are plenty of jobs and an economy that is stable. It's also only an hour and a half away from Oklahoma City in case you want to spend a Saturday at the zoo or a museum Read More

Lawton- Not a Great Place 4 Adults 2 Live & Thrive - 4/23/2020
I've lived in Lawton for a month shy of 5 years. I was stationed in the navy in my early 20's so I have been to a lot of places. Just traveling around the USA in my twenties and thirties, I can tell you that this place is not a good place for someone who is in their 40's. There is very little work that pays anything.

There are 4 types of adults living here for the most part. You've got the military crowd including retirees. There are the gangs that the police do not have under control. You've got republicans who love Trump. Most of the people here are rude. The rest of the people kind of just tolerate the others and wait for the day to move.

The cost of living is the only 1 star that this place should get. It is cheap to own a home and buy groceries. However, renters pay a lot to live her. Most people don't want to live here. The military retirees stays because of the hospital on the base and cost of living.

Also, the army base, is Read More

Lawton, OK Best Place to Live - 5/25/2019
I have lived in Lawton since 2005. When my husband retired from the Military we decided to make Lawton our home. I am a licensed Realtor and know about the real estate in our area. Lawton is a wonderful place to live. The people are extremely friendly, the cost of living is very low, and there is always something to do. This town is a great place to raise kids. If you like nature you will love it in Lawton. We have a wildlife refuge, tons of trails, and always some type of festival going on. If you want to visit a big city, Oklahoma City is 45 minutes down Hwy I-44. Also, a lot of movies are filmed in Oklahoma. I feel so blessed to live Read More

Trashy, Gang Infested & Over Priced Housing - 7/6/2018
I have lived in Lawton for 3 years.
As for the housing:
I have lived in a decent part and now I live in the wealthy part of Lawton. I no longer hear gun shots in the wealthy part, however, the people in the wealthy neighborhood are old bigots. The housing market is overpriced, however, compared to out of state homes it is much cheaper.

As for the social environment: You can enjoy pretty much do everything in one day here. Shopping is like any other town, same franchises and nothing unique about the mom and pop places. A few museums and a few places to sight-see is it. Same old, same old with the clubs-except these clubs can from time to time have brawls and shootings.

As for the academic environment: The university feels like a big high school. Most of the students are educated from part-time instructors, with very few doctorate level professors teaching. Nothing outstanding or noteworthy about Cameron University.

Cronyism - 11/4/2016
I'm still trying to figure out how putting up some bike rider signs cost $ millions. It's better than nothing .. I think somebody stole some money. . Cronyism is very big here with the good ol' cowboys..
Honor and ethics are gone with the wind..

Lawton/Fort Sill - 8/10/2016
There is no Lawton. It is Lawton/Fort Sill because Fort Sill rules and abuses this town. Quite frankly these glowing reviews are total lies. Lawton is not a good place to live. I am writing this review at 23:30. Thanks to Fort Sill we can't even consider getting any sleep. The Artillery is firing and the whole house shakes. The city and county do absolutely nothing to protect citizens from this abuse. There is no quality of life in this town or the surrounding areas. Even in the country you can't get any peace or get away from the artillery. In typical comatose Oklahoma fashion the locals can't even see the possibilities they would have without Ft. Sill. It would make a great recreation area. How about a state of the art indoor/outdoor water park? It would attract people from all the surrounding communities to include Texas and Oklahoma City. There is a beautiful Wildlife Refuge. Who wants to visit when they get their ear drums blown out?! To live here you have to be Read More

Safe and Freindly - 7/27/2016
I’ve lived here since I was stationed at fort sill in 2001. My wife and I moved back to our hometown in Ohio in 2007 but within a year WE CAME BACK. The people here are friendly and it is a safe place to live. There are dozens of festivals in the spring and fall and you can go outside without a jacket in December. The police department is filled with retired Army veterans so there is a little more patience, wisdom and cultural diversity compared to other cities of this size. The major disadvantage here is the terrible weather. It is so very hot and dry. I’ve read about dozens of cities on this site and almost all of them complain about the “drugs and crime” I think that is with nearly any city so I don’t take those comments too seriously. Here in Lawton the crime for the average middle class is very Read More
