What BestPlaces Users Say about Franklin

Located in Williamson County, Tennessee, Franklin is a small city with a population of approximately 81,000 residents. Known for its charming downtown area, historical sites, and top-rated schools, Franklin has become a popular place to live in the state. However, with any place, there are always varying opinions about what it's like to actually live there. Here are some excerpts from four different user reviews on BestPlaces.net that shed light on what it's really like to call Franklin home.

- "I've lived in Franklin for over 10 years and it's been nothing short of amazing. The community is so tight-knit and welcoming, the school system is top-notch, and there's always something to do. Plus, the downtown area is like a scene out of a movie with its quaint shops and restaurants." - Sarah K.

- "I moved to Franklin for work and I have to say, I wasn't thrilled at first. But now, I can't imagine living anywhere else. The people are friendly, the weather is great, and the cost of living is reasonable. And for me, the best part is the abundance of outdoor activities. I never thought I'd become an avid hiker, but the beautiful trails in Franklin have me hooked." - Mark R.

- "I've lived in Franklin my whole life and while it's a lovely place, it's definitely not without its flaws. The traffic can be unbearable at times, especially during rush hour, and the housing market is getting more and more expensive. But, I will say that the sense of community here is unmatched. It truly feels like a small town even though it's growing rapidly." - Emily W.

- "I have mixed feelings about Franklin. On one hand, the schools are great and there's a lot of job opportunities. But on the other hand, it's not the most diverse place and there's a lack of entertainment options. Also, the summers can be hot and humid. Overall, it's a nice place to raise a family but not much to do for young adults." - Justin M.

Won’t miss the heat in FL, like change of seasons - 11/13/2021
After visiting here for a week in the summer, I fell in love with the city! Lots of my friends in Florida already moved here from New Port Richey and Wesley Chapel. I see why, it is nice and clean and rarely any crime. I’m buying a new 2 bedroom condo near downtown, about the same price as one in Wesley Chapel. Franklin is close to Music City and lots to do there or spend the day in downtown Franklin. No bad area in Franklin, unlike the crime areas around shopping areas in Wesley Chapel (I’m moving from there next week) I’m retired as of a month ago and can live anywhere in the US and going back on Monday and closing on my house, then moving to Franklin. Plus, traffic here is half as bad as FL and Vanderbilt owns all the hospitals that are all close by. We are both 70 and need to make a change while our health is still good. It’s too hot in the summer in Florida anyways, we like change of seasons and it’s beautiful here today! Won’t have to worry about being a crime statistic in Read More

Franklin is a Great Place to Live. - 3/10/2021
I've lived in Tennessee all my life. I have lived in west, east and middle Tennessee. By far this is the best place I have lived. We have been in Franklin for 8 years. It has a great school system, convenient shopping, a great historic downtown, and friendly people. The only downside to Tennessee in general is the heat and humidity in the summer. Although middle Tennessee is much better than west. As we get closer to retirement, we are considering moving to a better climate. But there is so much we like about Franklin, it will be hard to move Read More

The Good and the Not-So-Good - 3/12/2017
I love that this is a greatly diverse community with a large African American and Hispanic community around West Main St./Nachez (I'm addicted to Pueblo Real Mexican restaurant in that area...yum!!!). You won't find a lot of Franklin natives, though. I have lived here over a year and most people I have met are from other states. I have met many people from NY and California. I love the downtown area, with all of the historic homes. The Harlinsdale dog park is nice but you have to go at off times (not weekends) or you will be stuck in an overcrowded pen with too many dogs and gossipy effeminate men in skinny jeans with their "delicate dogs" , drinking their Starbucks and yelling at any dog that touches their dog. The weather in Franklin is really good most of the time and they have a lot of events downtown but I have to admit, after going to 3 or 4 of these events, they are the same vendors selling the same crafts and stuff at every event. The only difference is the theme.

DO NOT MOVE HERE UNLESS YOUR A DEVOUT CHRISTIAN WH - 7/27/2014
I moved here from NYC two yrs ago and moving back in 2 months. This is worst place Ive lived in my life! nothing but Jesus freaks and conservative bores who think "FUN" is going hunting or going to church every five minutes. Boring is putting is lightly. Nothing to do here but EAT or go to the mall. Thats why everyone here is out of shape. And if your a liberal forget it. They don't know what that means here...If your a right wing Christian who loves to talk about church all day, you will fit in Read More

Fed Up with Outsiders - 5/5/2014
Coming from an original Franklin resident, I can tell you that this place used to be incredible. USED to be. When GM decided on Spring Hill for the Saturn plant in the 80s, it was the beginning of the end. The influx of outsiders has not stopped. All the outsiders have moved in and created a sh*thole in place of my hometown. It may be so much better than the crap city/state you came from, but you're slowly turning Franklin into exactly what you left. There's no reason it should take 45 minutes to an hour to get 7.5 miles down the road. Well these days it sure as hell does because so many of you keep coming in droves. 70,000 people is beyond enough! I get looked at like an alien when I tell people I'm from here. You've all driven the originals out and made it your own version of whatever you think it should be. PLEASE STOP COMING HERE. Read More

Franklin,TN- highly overated - 7/6/2013
Well, this town gets high reviews everywhere you look, it seems. Yet from the perspective of a person who has lived in a variety of states, due to moving because of my job, I find this place highly over-rated. Many online sites state how it is such a wonderful place to live, adding onto that how affordable it is, yet after living here for nearly four years, I find it to be kind of a sham. The quaint downtown is truly a front- which many towns are- but this one seems to be more than most.
The proximity to Nashville makes it desirable to many with hopes of making it big. As such, they are prepared to pay the high cost of living here: very high rental prices (for what you get), extreme traffic build-ups and delays that in reality rival LA, and it is nowhere near the size, and a city board that gives the impression they can do no wrong.
Many folks love a small town, and this is what was one at one time. But now, with the growth of Nashville, it is a packed bedroom Read More
